Hiya @Freddy . I know we`re supposed to be talking about evergreen clematis, but just as a thought, don`t be tempted by the evergreen honeysuckle called 'Henryi' - it is a Triffid !
Hedera 'goldheart' is a lovely small leafed ivy that stays green/gold all year. The wrens love it :)
Parthenocissus Henryi might be worth adding to the mix for gorgeous autumn colour - and maybe Celastrus Orbiculatus which has leaves that turn buttercup yellow in autumn.

I agree with Tetters, Freddy. I would recommend an evergreen Honeysuckle, (or two:heehee:), to add to the other plants you might want.

          Aye up Tetters

I wouldn’t mind a Honeysuckle. I had one in the past at a previous home, but it suffered badly with mildew. Where I am now, I had some Lupins, which were also ruined by mildew, so Honeysuckle is probably a non starter. I don’t like Ivy
I had a look at Parthenocissus Henryi and Celastrus Orbiculatus and they both look like they might be a bit...rampant :)
To be honest, I’m thinking I might stick with the planting’s already mentioned over these two threads. Yes, there is space for more plants, but there’s lots of shade and I think it might well end up being dingy/dark within the seating area if I plant more.
Thanks for the suggestions though

If it's Parthenocissus Henryana, I have plants available that I will be digging up.

I just checked ‘Armandii’ regarding aspect, don’t know why I didn’t check before
It says it needs full sun. I have a 7’ wall to the south, which is around 3’ from the pergola at that point (proposed position of planting). This means that it will be out of direct sunlight for much of the year, lower down. A problem?

No, Freddy, definitely not:nonofinger::snorky:. My Armardii is flowering profusely on the North side of the Acer Brilliantissimum where it's being shaded by the Tree foliage itself, and it has done so for as long as I have had it.:hapydancsmil::hapfeet::snorky:

I ain’t a joiner/carpenter, obviously, but should look ok when it’s finished and with plants growing up. Off the shelf trellis to fit are going to be difficult to source I think, so it will have to be self-built :fingers crossed:

Very nice, looks like you've going to floor as well, I nearly always end up doing my own, but always adds to the satisfaction when you self build don't you think?

Yes, I’m going to floor it with composite decking. It is satisfying, but these projects always seem to escalate, both in terms of cost and unforeseen problems (mistakes:doh:)
