This week I received a parcel of 3 gaultheria procumbens I ordered in an online offer. I dont usually succumb but on this occasion I must have been caught in a moment of weakness. It was just my luck that they arrived on Monday. Had they arrived over the weekend I could have done something with them. This evening I repotted them and put them in the shed. As I dont have a greenhouse or cold frame, I don't know what else to do with them. I hope they survive in there. There is no way I could risk leaving them outside to freeze.

@Snorky85 I don't have OCD (in that sort of way) but my decision would have been for all Conference pears simply because they're the only ones that I like! The only difference is that I always prefer to have plants etc. in odd numbers - normally the recommended way for plants.

I know what you mean @shiney ....I threw caution to the wind and went back to tesco and got another pear tree (so now have 5) and got a Stella Cherry tree because they were 2 for £10. No idea where to put the cherry tree yet....sure I will find somewhere even if it is on the lotty.

Feeling jealous of those cheap fruit trees Snorky, but I'm sorry about your field.

I'd love to have a big field in the hills just north of us to plant up a big orchard and all those nut trees that just won't fit in our garden.

I'm still working on spending a Christmas present I got for the garden. First was the mulberry posted above (planted and putting on new growth despite this heatwave, hurrah), followed by a black genoa fig tree (only $10 at our big box hardware store). This morning I have bought online 3 varieties of olive: picual, coratina and arbequina ($27 total). I still have $43 to spend but I need to be patient and wait for spring bulbs or bare root fruit trees.

My wife a serial on-line shopper, ordered a couple of these peanut butter bird feeders. The glass jar just slides in.

It comes with a short loop of chain attached to two lugs at the top.
Didn't think our birds would fancy it swinging about. So I made it more secure by hanging it on a cup hook so it was out of reach of the squirrel and kept it steady with a bit of garden wire..

Nipped in wilko during my dinner break, picked up some begonias, fragrant Angelique and double yellow.

I went to home Depot to buy some I beam for a job. Bought the I-beam and then happened by the seed section (at the opposite end of the store) and whilst there picked out a packet of yellow bean seeds. Don't even know if I'll have room for them or not!

This is the little rhodo I bought in Wilko's yesterday for three quid.

Looks very healthy with several buds.

I gave it a water and put it back in its poly sleeve on the window sill of the shed, it can get quite warm in there in the sun and the two freezers in there must generate some heat, plus that it gets from its back wall which is that of the garage next to the koi filters that never get cold.
Don't know wher I'll squeeze it in yet, after I've given it a bigger pot and let it grow on a bit.

Hi @BellaBlue. Sorry it has taken me this long to catch up with you. Yes I like that idea. I did look to see if I already had a suitably sized box in the shed. The trouble is the only plants I have of concern are potted up into 6"dia pots. I would have needed a fairly big box to stand them in.

It is definitely an idea I'm happy to look into. In the spring I will most likely look into buying plants in 3" pots. In lieu of a greenhouse, I could use a row of boxes sitting on a bench similar to the ones in the article.

                          G.

6, 20 litre pots arrived today, similar to hart canna squat pots, but not quite the same quality but at £13.49 pretty happy, new home for my cannas.

Our £7.50 bird feeder arrived. I filled it with a mixture of seed, mealworms and suet pellets.
What I like about it is that when I poured the food into it none came over the lips of the individual troughs and into the tray.
The top is a bit fiddly to screw back on, you have to hold it above your head to see what you are doing. The wire support is quite strong.

There's two little drain holes in the tray under each trough.
