Not sure what soil type @Snorky85, maybe loamy and free draining ....compared to ours it's lovely stuff!

 

Gorgeous sunshine here too @Verdun ....just off to sieve some more compost in readiness for more seed sowing

I did check my compost today and I again marvel that each season what ever you throw in tuns into lovely dark compost, smelling so earthy

 

Update....cut my 2 lawns, cut last miscanthus down and stirred contents of top compost bin.......rotting down quite fast. Compost prob not as good as yours though John558.......new bin only started in the autumn
Also Tithonia seed have germinated despite a tad early sowing....just a couple so far

 

Went to hardware store yesterday and purchased a bag of well rotted manure. Also slid a pot of english bluebells and a pot of Pueblo daffodils into the trolley. Did a bit more digging of the bed under the cherry tree but cold wind yesterday so only lasted less than an hour. Not got much enthusiasm at moment as lost my old bun Hartley a few days ago . When I got back from hardware store the sparrows were perched on a bush in front garden. When they saw me get out of the car they started twittering excitedly then flew across the garden to land on the phone lines as I walked up the drive and then followed me as I walked along path and around to the back door. They went into the hedge by the patio and sat waiting for the food to appear . I'd only been gone a couple of hours and there were fat balls in the feeders but from the fuss they made you would think I hadn't fed them at all. That cheered me up a little.

 

Aww @luciusmaximus hope you are doing ok :( Sorry for your loss. So sweet of the little birds....I love little sparrows. Id love to be able to feed them by hand...I’m always envious when I see videos of people feeding their regular garden birds that way. Have you heard of a chap called Villager Jim? He’s a photographer and the animal shots he takes are fab...and he feeds a little bird, who he’s called Deirdre, from a little tin out of his car window. Cheers me up when I see his pics.

Making a snow angel.

 

Sowed 4 more trays of seeds,a tad earlier than I normally do but I have somewhere appropriate to keep them and I am sowing for two gardens this year ...so a lot to do!! No pressure!!!

 

Chopped/Hacked/Pruned my Clematis over my arch today to around 12 ins. A black sack full to put on the compost.

 

Been going through my pots today seeing what's still alive, a lot are sodden but roots seem healthy so I've repotted them with a better draining mix (i hope) big bonus is the echinops i thought I'd lost have all started to grow, planted up the bare rooted eryngium that came today, not sure about my asclepias Tuberosa the stem seems solid but no growth. Found a potted lily i bought from home bargains last year been outside all over winter so i thought the tubers would be gone, but they don't feel soft so i put them in the greenhouse until i see what to do with them, all the clematis cuttings have overwintered so really happy about that, ageratum, agastache, bacopa and dichondra seeds poking their heads out now so all in all quite happy.

 

One half full bag of bog standard compost, one cheap and cheerful sieve and twenty minutes later and I've got a decent batch ready for seed sowing. If I turned up at a beach and the sand was as fine as this compost, I'd consider myself lucky - so if they refuse to grow in this they're very picky.


Couple of Gardeners Delight tomatoes, Cucumber Louisa F1 and a happy mix of bedding plants (Cineraria Silver Dust, Salvia Blaze of Fire, Begonias and Petunias) are now in the hands of the sun and our entry level heated propagator.



It's been a more than enjoyable day, getting a taste of gardening back.

 

Its been a nice day today dare I say spring like , my snowdrops are coming up with little white flower heads appearing

I've emptied the compost bins now and moved them near the area they will be sited , doing some repairs wood rotting. I am going to replant one of the red currants which is in the garden where the compost heap was extra planting place. And I can put the washing post back in while i am at it, I had a gifted clematis last year but had nowhere to plant it, think I get some plastic mesh and wrap it around the washing post if it doesn't go up the post its got the fence to climb on.

Trapped my finger earlier moving a gravestone, Grave stone fell and I trap my finger between the wall on the gravestone thought I broke it at first swelled up like a balloon, I can still move it so its probably alright .
