Not a lot of space at all, but looking to plant some fruit. What takes up least room and is worth growing ? No kids, north facing garden, 300m above sea level.

My patio pear tree grown in a pot produced almost 20 pears last year. You can get apples, plums, etc too. I also have a small Czar plum tree perhaps 1.5 tall which is quite productive. Blackberry plants are quite large but if trained against a fence don't take up much ground. Blueberries bushes apparently grow well in pots.

Raspberries grow well in Scotland, I think.

        Hello fumanchu :)
Consider growing gooseberries as cordons.......prolific fruiting, easy picking and you can have a few different varieties. Fun too...you can grow them as single oblique cordons, as double cordons or even be more adventurous with them shape wise. Ditto for red and white currants.
North facing restricts some fruits though. :)

Will look into these ideas ty - but the neighbour says we can't grow apples or pears here as we are too high. Berries should be ok though. TY Gardeners !

I have a small garden and have patio fruit trees including cordons. I also have raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and strawberries.

Verdun - what do you do with red and white currants? Are they suitable for making into crumbles etc?

Raspberries, blueberries and blackcurrants i grow in pots. The fruit trees I also grow in pots. I have cordon, espalier and dual patio fruit trees, due to limited space.

I admit i don't have any experience of growing fruit trees at that height. However you may get some success with fruit trees specifically selected for your area and climate. This retailer has a lot of info about the best trees to grow in each area.

Growing apple trees and other fruit trees in the UK climate

I'm guessing that you would be zone 1.

As I mentioned i have a Czar plum. It's supposed to be reliable in most situations.

Yes, zone 1 Southern Uplands. And I love plums... :spinning:
Think the NW highlands is milder and wetter than I am here though.
I think trees are out though, no room. I'll do some research into patio/container fruit.

Hi @fumanchu the zones they quote seem to be related more to wetness and sunlight than to temperature, ie they seem more specific to fruit trees. I suspect soft fruit would work for you best - just whichever you prefer. I kept growing blackcurrants for ages, but my family found them too sharp, so it was pointless. How about containers of strawberries?

I'm sorry I didn't see this. Yes strawbs would work, we like them. Also blueberries. Going to look into that now. TY!
