I had one cold frame collapse under the weight of snow and ice and couldn't get to it until today. The plastic fittings for the tubing are getting tired because they are just from a cheapie kit and I had made a newer heavier plastic cover as well. Was puzzled as to what to use to prop it back up until I went down to the cellar and realized that some old medical stuff would make a great crutch :heehee:

      And it worked ;)

Bought some compost and well rotted manure at hardware store, along with 3 pots of Tete a Tete yesterday. Weather was sunny but with a southerly wind strong enough to make my nose and eyes stream. Two thick fleeces and a hat and I went outside to plant the daffodils in under the cherry tree and topped up my newly planted pot of Scabious with some of the compost. Whilst I was doing that I looked up to see Dolores and Hugo on a rug in the sun warmed conservatory, stretched right out with back legs fully extended grinning at me . Decided to join them.

@Verdun I don't have a plan as such with regard to a new raised bed - always open to suggestions :). I really need to reduce the number of pots but want to keep the baths and sinks. I can maybe put a couple of the plants in pots into one the baths. I will take some pics later on of the garden to show iti layout.

I cant believe this. After cutting the lawns in December I cut the paddock this morning and it was ready for a cut.

Good news was that the sit on mower started second turn of the key. I half expected the battery to be flat.

Jet washered the front garden walls and fence. If its nice again tomorrow I might even paintthe front fence.

Cleared out the shed at the front that had been piled up for months....ugh wish Id done it sooner. A rat has been living init at the back behind piles of builders sacks. Ended up emptying it all...big trip to the tip, repairing the rat hole at the back and disinfecting it all with zoflora and bleach. Just got the fan heaters in there drying it out before I do a final hoover to make sure all the last bits are gone. Then I can put everything back in.

Also found a little mouse in my greenhouse. Stupidly Id left some sunflower heads on the side in there and I found it sat in the tray with them. I’ve moved the sunflower heads outside and left the door open a crack...also lut two humane traps inside incase it’s still in there. Will go out and check again after I’ve done the shed.

My first afternoon in the garden for months so I'm back to clearing them of debris. Today I pulled out the rotting remains of a telegraph pole that was nicely entangled in chicken wire at the top end of the garden.

I don't know what I'm going to do with this area yet but I'll start with strimming and putting the rocks back on the remains of the wall. The crofter that keeps horses in the neighbouring field has been promising a new fence for a year, hopefully I might see it this Spring.

I didn't have much time to do gardening but decided to try and clear the ground by a large conifer as it was covered in dead leaf debris from the tree. This was covering a lot of bearded Irises - a golden brown variety that haven't flowered well for some years because of the conifer. We have been intending to move them for some time.

I couldn't rake the area because the Irises have started growing so had to do it by hand. The conifer debris was 3" - 6" deep so I had to be very careful. I filled a big wheelie bin and had difficulty wheeling it to the footpath for pickup this morning. I didn't realise how heavy conifer leaves, stuffed down tight, were. Five garden waste wheelie bins are all ready for their 7 a.m. pickup . We're only allowed two but two of our neighbours don't use theirs (their gardens are mainly grass and trees with no flower beds) and the house two doors down is empty (available to rent :)) and we use their bin. We have to wheel those bins to outside their houses.

I’m exhausted. My hedging arrived at 11am and the manure was also ready for me to start barrowing from the neighbours jcb digger bucket. Spent til 1pm lugging wheelbarrow loads into the border. I’m shattered now. Come inside for a cup of tea and no biscuits....so I’ve made a quick 16 batch of mary berrys fork biscuits....oops, there’s only 4 left now :heehee:

That is too funny! The boys heading toward the loo at the pub always get my stern command to wash their hands. The regulars are used to it but you should see the look on some of the newbies that pass by me :heehee:

ha ha, well they were chocolate biscuits so if a bit of manure got in the mix then you wouldn't tell :heehee:

I'm absolutely exhausted...couldn't do anymore today. Tomorrow I'll go out again and fork in more of the manure and then run the rotorvator over it before planting the hedging.

:rain: and in between :rain: :cloudy: , cold and windy for past three days. No gardening. Been looking at properties for sale in Cornwall instead. Weather supposed to be improving today.

One of our flower beds under our lounge window on the north side of the house is in constant shade and gets full of moss. I spent a long time yesterday clearing it and filled half a wheelie bin with moss. :phew:
