It's an Acer. You can keep it trimmed to remain small. When the leaves first start they are light green with orange trim round the edges. They develop into what you can see and then turn green. In the autumn they then go red.

Thanks Shiney :) Already got one similar to it then. Ours is the Palmatum Dissectum type with the feathered foliage.

It's OK then to plant them out now then @wiseowl ??? I'm never too sure:dunno:

I have over 30 Pelargoniums that I over winter every year and they are in bloom now. I was only thinking yesterday that it's a shame that they aren't planted out yet, I have also overwintered my Dad's too. My Marigolds aren't big enough yet as I was late sowing them:sad:

Good afternoon @Upsydaisy my friend I think the experts would say its a too early and I have taken a risk by planting them out now,I should wait and get some sound advice from one of our more knowledgeable friends,I don't want to mislead you;)

ps.If I get a frost being in containers I can always cover them up

Re planting out pelargoniums: I have a collection of scented pelargoniums which I overwinter. I’ve been doing this for a few years and some are more tender than others. The tougher ones I overwinter in a cold frame or cold greenhouse. I sometimes loose a few but none this past winter. Some I keep in the house. Today I’m moving them outside to make room for my tomatoes and I feel it’s time. I have checked the forecast and it’s frost free and warm for the next two weeks so I’ll be ok I think. I’ll have bubble wrap at the ready just in case.

                          Thanks @wiseowl and @Redwing .

Yes I've had mine for many years too and thankfully never lost one yet, they are in a cold frame with additional bubble wrap and fleece on permanent standby.:blue thumb:
I think I'll leave them for now but I do take them all out of the cold frame by day.
                          Thanks again:)

I have several pelargoniums outside that have been there for a couple of years. Flowering too. Main thing is drainage over winter. Frost free or just about too of course.

Woo, as long as your plants were hardened off they should be fine now esp with the summer temps forecast for the coming week. If they weren’t hardened off then it would be advisable to fleece them overnight for a while :)
