Only half emptied the shed as I decided to mow the lawn prior to messing about with it.

@shiney glad to hear you kept the hose handy. One can get very thirsty standing next to a roaring fire :)

After an amble around the garden this morning I decided that the Lilac and Climbing Rose canopy over the Tree Fern
      upload_2019-9-17_19-18-46.png

was too dense and restricting the Fern leaves. So, taking a Mug of Tea, a pair of Secateurs and a large garden sack, I wandered down to the Tree Fern and started cutting out the lower stems of the Lilac and Climbing Roses. Have you been doing a job thinking it will only take a few minutes and then it dawning on you that you should have brought a Flask and Sandwiches as well.:wallbanging::heehee: The Lilac and Climbing Rose canopy was really dense and interwined, plus there were long tendrils of Jasmine threading through the foilage from the lower to the top and, so I found myself going deeper and deeper into the Border cutting the lower stems and then playing tug of war to pull the entangled stems free, while behind me the pile of cuttings and prunings was getting higher and larger. Having said that I enjoyed doing the cutting back and seeing the end result which left the Tree Fern free to grow on. Another job that was niggling at me was the fact that I could not sit on the Stone Bench under the Acer Brilliantissimum
      upload_2019-9-17_19-36-16.png

due to the lower branches of the Acer and the stems of the Clematis Armandii that were hanging down like Jungle Creepers, so I crossed over the Garden and starting cutting back the Clematis and some of the branches of the Acer.
After that the job left was to cut on the prunings into shorter pieces to make it easier to get them into the sack. I actually got two sackfulls and the "10 minute" job took nearly two hours.:dunno::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Took a couple of cuttings from a rose I planted last year potted them up and will see if they root. I’m enjoying this new hobby of mine.

Well after making mugs of tea all morning for the Openreach team I decided I would leave the gardening jobs until this afternoon.
However I became totally distracted by an Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar. IMG_20190917_152345_hdr.jpg

When fully stretched out it was huge!! It walked right across the lawn and shingled area and headed out towards the lane, so I picked it up and took it across the lane to the fields as I would hate to have seen it get squashed by a passing vehicle or horse!!
I took a short video of it but it's too large to upload onto here sadly. But here is a YouTube clip that I've found.

@CanadianLori its a blessing and a curse having the land.

Having space is great. My in-laws are our closest neighbours (almost T shaped roof behind our house). This is great for when we're on holiday - garden and dog sitting.

Its a lot to maintain on our own but we keep it in good order.

Eventually we want to sell the main house and build a smaller place in the paddock but we need the old guard at the council planning department to retire first as the house has a lot of history with them and it tends to cloud their judgement.

Just been out planting the elephant garlic. Cutting back this year, just the odd 60 gone in. A few hundred cloves left to eat, give away etc.

First batch of garlic too. 32 of my own from last year and 32 Spanish from Lidl veg counter.? They went into root trainers to protect from the freeze coming.

Picked another batch of sweet red peppers, too many, destined to be made into a relish or something.

Box hedging got a short back and sides too. :)

Planted up 3 tubs with spring bulbs, wallflowers and polyanthus. The fuchsias and trailing geraniums that i took out I've potted them up and put them in the small greenhouse, put the pot marigolds and snapdragons in the compost bin.

I got the shed emptied and started to pull it out of position so I could fix the electric fence and it decided to disassemble itself. So I fixed the fence wiring and then got out my drill and lots of corner braces and screws and put the shed back together. I keep calling it a shed but it really is a small lean to cold frame. 2 x 4 x 6' high. It was useless right from the start so I decided to repurpose it as a shed to replace the old shed that I disliked because it reminded me of an outdoor loo. Anyway, after I got it fixed, I realized there just wasn't a better spot for it so I cleaned it up and put it back, then reloaded the contents. The only person that knows that anything changed is me because it looks almost the same as when I started this morning :noidea:

I collected a lot of catnip seeds. And soon will be harvesting the plants to give to my friends with cats. I love the little fur balls and that's why I grow it. I think this winter I'll start some seedlings and give them as little friendship gifts to the same folks. not sure..

Been looking at all the peppers I need to harvest... let me get a photo of the Shineybrids - better get picking again - actually they have strong stems so I've been using scissors to harvest.

I hope everyone else has had as lovely a day as I have had outside today :)

Another non productive day after playing golf in the morning/early afternoon, I could get used to this! I might do a bit of weeding tomorrow after shopping.

                          Duplicate post.
The connectivity of this particular board for me is frustrating. Mostly pages refuse to load and when they do and I want to send a post it ignores me. So I've no idea whether it has been sent or not as the page can stay imobile for ages so I click on send again and I end up with a duplicate post. If I try to delete it, it ignores me completely, so I have to make several attempts to edit one of them.
Threads that I eventually manage to get on I have to save the link as it usually times out if I try to go to them from the main page if I want to return to them.

I’m not having any issues with the board, have you tried another browser?
You could try deleting caches if it’s only happing on one browser to see if that helps.

@CanadianLori I'm pleased the hybrids are doing well. :blue thumb: I use deadheading nippers to cut them as it's quite often awkward to get in close enough to cut them

How did the chilli bread go?

I did some mowing, first time in about a month as the grass is virtually at a standstill in this drought, and then did some pressure hosing. The old bones are aching :old: :heehee:
