Got myself a 'budget' cage. It's basically a bunch of the plastic coated metal stakes, with a few extenders and clips to attach them together and some bird netting. Little sceptical about the clips, especially when it come to surviving the elements, but there are a number of cheap and easy solutions if they don't do the job.

With it just being made of the stakes that seem to be stocked everywhere, it should be easy enough swapping some of them for longer ones if necessary.

Did a bit a resurch...and settled on the Bosch AXT Rapid 2200 shredder - it's arriving on Monday from our friends at Amazon. Looks to come out on top on a number of revue sites. You can get cheaper - but I need something fairly robust to dispose of hedge cuttings - using secateurs just doesn't cut it any more - so to speak...

Amazon don't mess about when it comes to delivery - ordered last night - arrived just after 12 mid day today.

My fuchsia and persicaria arrived from Ballyrobert today. Prompt delivery, reasonably priced, well-packaged, seem to have healthy new growth and are not pot bound, will definitely be buying plants from them again! :)

Thanks for letting me know Armandii, there was another seasoned gardener on here that rated them highly, I think it was Verdun. :)

My only complaint is that I ordered 2 plants and only got 1 bit of fudge in my parcel from them! I should get 1 bit of fudge for each plant I order, there's no justice in this world nowadays! :heehee:

Purchased some cheap gas canisters from Home Bargains for the allotment stove. They were £3.99 for 4, Go Outdoors sell similar own brand canisters for £7.49.

The cheap cans are described as 'ANTI EXPLOSION' - which does worry me...

Well, I'm not worried about them, clanless, but that might have something to do with the distance you are away from me:dunno::doh::hate-shocked::heehee:

My aubrietas from The Secret Gardening Club arrived this morning, they look healthy. My wildlife gardening book says they are visited by honeybees, bumblebees, hoverflies, flies, bee-flies and butterflies, so I look forward to seeing what they attract this year! Does anyone here grow them in pots? Wondered what the best soil mix is for them. :dunno:

Today I picked these up from Poundland. I thought I would give them a try. Most websites I have read suggest to plant them in stages over several weeks to prolong the flowering period. That's ok but how do you keep track of where you planted them. Any experiences would be appreciated.

                        G.

Ps. What are the chances of them surviving the winter in the ground?
