Pleached trees

Has anyone tried growing pleached trees in large pots please? I'm wondering whether they would survive.

@Mike Allen Pleached trees you must have seen them around. Very much two dimensional. pruned to have height and width, generally first branches 6 to 10ft up, branches run into the neighbouring trees, often lime or hornbeam and used in Avenues or at boundaries. Often have a frame, initially, to allow them to be formed.
@Sheal No experience of pleached trees, would think they would need big pots and plenty of water in the summer especially if site is windy.

 

Why would you want to grow a pleached tree in a pot @Sheal ?
Wont it keep blowing over?

That's what I'm thinking @NigelJ. It's not a windy site, but being thought about for screening in the middle of a new build estate.

A pleached tree would look ridiculous in my garden @pete. I'm trying to help my niece with ideas for screening from other houses.

I was wondering why you were asking about pleached trees.

 

If I'm honest I don't like the formality of them Nigel, so I wouldn't have them in a garden of mine.

 

Well, I think in any garden, if grown in a pot , they would blow over.

 

It may do Pete. Not the best of ideas and as Nigel said they would need plenty of water in summer. It's an idea visited and now pretty much discarded, my other ideas mean garden re-design.
