Aphids - blackfly . The proliferation of them is reducing as the ladybirds seem to be recruiting more of their friends. They eat the blackfly. The ants farm the blackfly for the honeydew they produce. I'm still needing to do squishing patrol until they get it all under control.

As they say here. never seen the like. Actually I have never seen greenfly here either, but the proliferation of slugs make up for it

Don't have trouble with aphids here, the birds eat them if we get any.
We do have trouble with slugs and snails when it's wet but not lately.

But I have been out to pick the ingredients for tea tonight - courgettes, peas, baby spinach, tarragon and chives.

Rain, wind, rain and more rain for over a week now but it is really warm too. Humidity 85% today  when there has been a break I've just managed to get a little maintenance in. Funnily since the big conifer hedge has gone the garden hasn't been such a wind trap as it was before. So hopefully less damage in the future. Its made quite a difference removing them. Hopefully I'll get the manure mixed in over the next week or so then can start planning what to put in there.

@Sian in Belgium I hope your mum makes a speedy recovery :imphrt:

Admitting to a seriously bad knee this last while and walking and thus gardening is off limits. So am being a dedicated spectator, and a hunter-gatherer. Given the weather that is entirely appropriate. Yesterday the marguerites I inherited started opening so flower picking was in vogue. Added glorious Royal Fern. .

Thank you all for your concern for my mum.:grphg:

She had a “small, clean fracture” of her hip. She had emergency surgery on Monday, came round well from the anaesthetic (my mil died last autumn during a similar op - I was sooo anxious!), and was fairly settled on the ward. Yesterday afternoon she was moved to a community hospital in a nearby town, for recovery. Normally it would be sad that the community hospital in her town has closed, but with no visitors allowed, its a mute point.

my brother thought she would be coming home within a week. I tried to dissuade him, but he was convinced.... she will be in for quite a few weeks yet. (Mil had been told 6-8 weeks). So bro has gone home, and I will wait until she is due to be discharged before heading over to open up the house for her.

Good morning @Sian in Belgium, glad to hear things have gone smoothly for your Mum and I hope that her road to recovery is a smooth one. A very worrying time for you, now at least that bit is done with and you can relax a bit knowing she is healing in very safe hands. Take care x

Picked greens front and back. Inspected the "troops " after the battering; a few dismal pods on the main pea stands at the back - and more battering due tonight. All is still too sodden out there to do more than that. The front stand of peas and beans is luscious... Very soon!
