Yeah I was trying to think of some of its other common names.

I struggle posting links when I'm using my phone.

We had two massive ones in Alabama that flanked the entrance to our driveway ... we knew them as Mimosa.

Yeah I think the fact it was growing well in Alabama suggests it tends to like heat, probably on its furthest north here that it is likely to grow.
@CanadianLori although being further south I'm thinking it would struggle with the winters.

@pete, have you got your Norths and Souths confused?

"probably on its furthest north here that it is likely to grow." (UK) and "although being further south I'm thinking it would struggle with the winters.[" (Canada)

Alabama is level with Morocco and Albizia grows beautifully here. Maybe I am misreading ... or the heat is getting to me!

With hindsight I wish I had planted one Albizia and one Jacaranda rather than two Jacarandas.

No just bad English, when I refer to here I mean here, UK,

Lori is further south than me but gets colder winters.

Went through Pennsylvania years ago and the Albizias there were huge and full of flower in August, they refered to them as pink mimosas, I don't think where @CanadianLori lives is a lot further north than Penn so they may grow well there.

My largest tree comes from seed I collected over 30 yrs ago on the shore of the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri but not sure how cold it gets there in winter.

Thank you everyone. I think I'll tell him he is taking his chances if he puts it in the ground and leaves it out through our winter. Yes, I am further north but don't have that lovely gulf stream to help moderate temperatures.

Had to check that out...geography isn't my best subject, but I'd never have believed that some of Canada is further south than Kent! My UK Albizzia grew well in Northants but rarely flowered. They do better here with lots of strong sunshine. They self-sow too.
