It must be the thought of an oncoming Winter but I've been thinking of getting some sort of Garden Statue for the centre of the "Walk Around Border" in the garden but a bit undecided as to what style it would be. The budget would have a limit of around £300/£400 but it's what the statue would be from "Mystical" to Traditional but nothing too "Yuk" and definitely, (sorry to those that love 'em), no Gnomes:nonofinger::heehee:

I think nearly everyone knows what style, if you can call it that:heehee:, of garden I have and they might have an idea of what sort of statue would/could be a central point of focus and if a Plinth was needed that would not be a problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Plenty of options ,probably to many.
      Mattstone garden ornaments.
      Sorry can’t get link.

It appears to be a difficult challenge, if you only have to choose just one.
      Good luck.

Never been a great fan of garden sculpture myself. However if money was no object I would have something from David Goode - Bronze Sculpture love the quirkiness of them, but completely out of mine and most other peoples budget.

Thanks, roders, it's always good to hear from you and know you and your good lady are okay. I'll look at Mattstone.

Well, it's just a case of something that will fit, hopefully, into the character of the garden but I do want only the one.

I'm not really a great enthusiast myself, Nigel, unless it has some practical use such a seat or the like. But, the conviction is growing that perhaps a statue of some sort in the "Walk Around Border" would be a reasonable idea.
You're right, David Good, is well out of my budget, although I have to say that as nice as his sculptures are I find it hard to justify such prices.

My problem, mazambo, is not finding sites for Statues but more of which style of Statue would fit into my garden, which is why I'm asking what people might put in my garden or possibly theirs.:dunno:

How about a chainsaw sculpture Armandii?

chainsaw animal sculptures - Bing images

My owl (Oswald) is looking a bit the worse for wear now. The Woodpeckers aren't helping him either with their own version of sculpting.:)

            Then....

            ..... and now.

Unfortunately, Sheal, I already have one. I bought it as a gift for my Sister's garden and she really treasured it. But when she sold her House and moved to Wem she couldn't take him with her so she asked me if I would "look after him" for her, so now he's back in my garden. She also keeps a check on him by asking me every now and then how he is:heehee: But it doesn't matter how weather worn a garden ornament gets they only get more valuable to the memories they invoke.

I'm trying to find an image of the Walk Around Border that will give people an idea of what it looks like and the height of it. It's around 40' or so in length and, at the widest, around 20' in width and probably rises from the path level to the centre by 18 inches to two feet and my choice of plants also raises the height of the border:doh:, so anything too low would get hidden without a fairly tall plinth as in the case of my Owl. So, I'm looking for something that will rise above the plants in the border.

So, I'm open to suggestions on style, be it traditional, fantasy, animal/bird or whatever but it would need some height when, say, in the centre of the border.

I consider some kind of statue has a place in the garden. Once Val &I discovered some blown plastic or whatever material statues. This one was a wee child, large summer hat and right arm extended up and across the forehead and eyes. We bought three, one for each of our daughters and one for us. Following the erection of a new garden fence, by the council. Val exclaimed. My garden child has gone. Theiving council workers. Then losing Val, I wanted a memorial garden. So I splashed out around £200 on roses. These were selected due to the make-up etc and why they would become a living memory. Most if not all failed. I then looked at pond statues. A great one, costing around £200. Naked woman sculptuered in black. I visualized myself standing talking to it. No go area.

I've taken on board your need for height. How about a natural stone monolith? :)

A good idea, Sheal, but they seem to be used as "stand alone" pieces.

Well, at least you'd get a word in, Mike, and she wouldn't answer you back:dunno::heehee:

Well, everything I plant, and the way the garden looks, is in memory of my Wife, Mike, but gardening like all things has it's successes and failures when planting. My garden has high fences that obscure what's in it and many visitors are taken by surprise when they wander into it.
As I said I want something that will fit into the character of the garden and plants in it.
