That sounds brilliant! It's lovely when you come across a garden that's so highly individualistic. I think a lot of us gardeners want to create something truly original but few manage it. But there is also something wonderful about making a more conventional garden but doing it well. Ultimately it's about creating whatever makes you smile and feels comfortable, I think. :)

Crook Hall, another place with a white garden, I'm finding the urge to make one very tempting lately because white 'lifts' a garden and looks so lovely in the evening. But I always end up with purple and violet plants for some bloody reason! :frown:

One of the gardens I failed to mention is Biddulph Grange. It's a garden that has many countries in in it. and my Wife and visited it on the first day of opening, and many times after that, after it was taken on by the National Trust and returned to it's original state after being "lost" and left to become wild and abandoned......a fantastically interesting garden.

Yes, that is a truly fascinating garden @ARMANDII, thanks for mentioning! Haven't visited it, but I'm sure I saw Monty Don do a programme (or more likely, an excerpt) on it a few years ago. Not on YouTube unfortunately, so can't share it here. :frown:

If you ever get the chance, Nick, do:thumbsup::) The history of it's origin, built by one of the richest (Bateman) families in Cheshire is fascinating as they married into other rich families and helped build other gorgeous gardens in the area.

My favourite gardens have not been mentioned as yet, so...

In this country, my favourite is called Norrvikens Trädgårdar. They are situated near to the town of Båstad, which may be known to tennis enthusiasts on the forum. Not only because it is a beautiful place to visit, but also because the gardens are now being restored to their former glory all thanks to an endangered species of lizard.

            Home – Norrviken Båstad

Moving over to Germany, it has to be Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe near Kassel.

In the UK, there are four gardens that I would like to visit, but as yet havent. One is entirely opposite in style to mine, (its possible I met the owner of this one many years ago). A second is similar but a bit more formal, and the other two I dont know much about. The owners though are true gardeners, so I'm certain a visit to both would be very worthwhile! All four are owned by forum members...:)

Another vote for Arley Hall in Cheshire
My favourite garden to visit; truly a peaceful and relaxing place
About 40 minute drive for us, we went there today
The nursery has decent plants and reasonable prices

It was my Wife's favourite garden, Cordy, and she was invited on a private tour by the then Head Gardener who showed us all the hard work they put in and she was given the privilege of being able to accompany the Gardeners working at the back of the borders, which often left me standing on the grass! It's still a favourite of mine and I buy quite a lot of stuff from the Nursery.

It's a while since I've been there, and I believe it's grown exponentially, but I followed East Ruston Old Vicarage's progress from a couple of acres of flat, Norfolk farmland to a marvellous garden incorporating so many ideas and styles.
Le Vasterival near Dieppe in Normandy was (is?) a beautiful place created with English gardens in mind. Made even more magical by Princess Sturdza, the owner and creator. A fantastic plantswoman and a lovely person.

LOL Well, why wouldn't it be? You've created a wonderful Algarve garden with plenty of interest and charm to it. I need more Autumn interest in mine, time to add some shrubs and asters, I think!

I love the fact that people are still contributing to this thread and hope to see many more add their favourites! I'm going to learn to drive soon so visiting all the gardens in the UK will be great fun!

Hi Nikolaos. Thank you, Autumn/Winter/Spring is when we have colour ... forget Summer as it is too hot and dry. Monday I bought some plants (I put pics up) and have more arriving so am getting organised for the "good months".

Good luck with your driving lessons. In my day (in the States in the 60s) we didn't have to have lessons ... you were usually taught by a relative. I understand they are expensive ... they are here.

(national trust) It's the home of Lord Faringdon.
Like so many good gardens you need to see it on a sunny day.
Today we are off to 'Newark house' Glos, also national trust which has acres of excellent beech woods with marked routes to follow.
                            Perfect for Autumn.

I absolutely loved visiting the Sacred Garden in Glastonbury. It's just so peaceful and tranquil and felt very healing. The views up to the Tor were fabulous too.
