I should imagine that it being made of lead, Scrungee, that it would be quite rare, but there are Crocodile "garden ornaments" made for sale

I'm pretty sure that it's not what I want in the garden though as I'd never be sure if it was real or no.

@ARMANDII maybe something relating to your RAF days would be appropriate :)

A fancy bird feeder? This one is in the grounds of Cawdor Castle, it stood about 6ft high.

I wouldn't mind having an No.111 Squadron English Electric Lightning parked in the garden, Jasmine, just for old times sake.:love30::thumbsup::dunno::heehee:..........but it would take up a lot of room.

Wow! That's impressive and would look lovely parked amongst the walk around border :heehee: I'd be happy with just the propeller off it.

It was grounded in tarmac Armandii and who knows what underneath that. I bet it weighs a bit too.

Now that's a good idea Jasmine. A propeller standing on end.

Eeerrrr, it didn't have propellers, Jasmine:dunno::whistle::heehee: It had two really powerful Jet Engines that could take it to 1800mph, and was famous for taking off and then the pilot pulling the stick back and doing a nearly vertical climb......

my work area was the green cone at the front which housed Ferranti Radar and my job was to keep it working and update it every now and then.

Oh, you should have let us know, as FC, Shiney, Woo and I would have brought a digger.

I remember seeing a garden on Nantwich Road in Crewe that had a fence of old Mk12 Spitfire Propellers and when I asked about them the Lady didn't even know what they were, their value both in History and monie.

I've got a couple of ideas on the Statue but the impending ban on crossing the border into Wales is going to knock things back, as that's where I can have a real look at what I'm thinking of, and I might also need a 30 inch high plinth as that appears to be the recommended height for plinths.

                            If I may digress...

When I started work at BAC back in ‘75, us trainees had to take several courses, one of which was how to handle a fire. During this course, there was an almighty ‘whoosh’ followed instantly by the roar. We all spun round to see two Lightnings disappearing over the hump in the runway. Next thing the pair of them were doing ‘tail-stands’ (what looked like) straight up at an unbelievable rate of knots. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Even seeing that every day, as I did, Freddy, never took that awe away and I was so lucky to be a member of No.111 Squadron (also known as, Treble One, Trouble One, and Trembling First:heehee:), which took me under it's wing being I was the youngest member of the Squadron fresh out of 2 years of Apprenticeship.
The Lightning was such a Beast of power and, to us, a thing of Beauty, and I could write a book on my experiences and the unbelievable people I worked with. It's top operating maximum height was always classified as Secret but, as an indication, the TV personality, Brian Cox, Professor of Physics and Astronomy, flew in one of the few left still flying by a Firm in South Africa to take him to the "edge of Space" where he could observe the delineation between the Earth's blue atmosphere and the blackness of Space.
I can still "see and hear" the thunder of the Lightning in double reheat as it did that almost vertical climb and smell that evocative smell of burning Paraffin:love30::dunno::heehee: And it's still a aircraft of reverence to those who flew her and worked on her. I flew in one, (a T4 trainer) from Anglesey to Wattisham in Suffolk, and from Suffolk to Cyprus, so I was such a lucky young "erk"

Back to Statues......Still not sure, at the moment, whether or not I will be able to cross over into Wales, only 8 miles away, to try to some certain Statues for the garden which is a bit frustrating.
