If only this were life size! Well, 1m is not bad. Link to Wayfair

A Narnia lamppost might be fun, you could have smaller statues underneath to be discovered at closer distance.

Or perhaps a life size sheep would be just the thing?

Was a predecessor of the Lightning used as a model for these 1950s cigarette lighters, or was it just a fairly accurate futuristic vision of what was to come?

Also got these brass models made by a relative of Mrs Scrungee's whilst he was in the RAF.

Well, not to my knowledge, Scrungee. The first images looks a little like a Saunders Roe Fighter/Interceptor S series but the air intakes are wrong plus one two other things
The second looks like the Mosquito and the third I'm not sure of.
The prototype to the Lightning was the P1a....

Hi Caroline, well, the statue is meant to go in the middle of the heavily planted Walk Around Border so unless it went onto a pedestal/plinth it would get lost out of view during the summer,

Daft suggestion based (very loosely) on that though - would there be a way to have a 'part' of a Lightning, or at least a copy part? Or a prop from a different type of aircraft?

I am guessing you won't want bird baths or bird feeders lest the cats get to them?

I will give Duxford a ring and see if they can give us the dimensions and delivery costs to get it to @ARMANDII's garden - we can have a whip round :ideaIPB:

Now, here is a really weird coincidence - - my lovely mum worked for Ferranti on the outskirts of Edinburgh, assembling aircraft components.

I don't think many people of the last couple of generations have ever known just how big and important Ferranti was to the defence of the UK.

They had two sites near my mums - she worked in the Granton one, right on the edge of the Forth, and I am pretty sure it was the displays for the radar units she was involved in making (I must try and remember to ask her); she loved it there, and was really upset when it closed.

I was lucky as I came out of apprenticeship into the "Man's" RAF as things were changing over from analogue to digital so knew a lot about the first and a little about the second and had to learn very quickly on operational aircraft. But due to the shortage of Radar Technicians in the RAF I later worked on Type 84 radar, and other types, which is Ground Radar, at various sites including Midland Radar at RAF North Luffenham in Rutland the latter leading to me falling in love with that, to me, magical County. So, if you ever have a Radar Dish installed the size of Jodrell Bank in your garden and need it servicing......

On Type 84 Radar you could get the weather on it as it was the best Cloud imaging radar I knew, on Jodrell Bank you can get the Universe.......but I'm not sure about Channel 5:dunno::heehee:

Remember that chap from the caribbean who won the lottery. He had this mansion built and wanted a statue in every room.

Comes the day he and family move in.
What's all of these he asks.

Nah, nah. I meant. Allo, is statue?:sad::sad:

                            Alright. I'm going. sniff, sniff!

Well, after trying, locally, to find a suitable plinth for a garden statue and failing I've found this one and ordered it.

It's 30 inches tall and, if you add the height of the border above the garden path it'll be about 48 - 52 inches in height, so the top of the statue, when I find what I want, will be around 8' feet above the path.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:
