The last pre-order of plants arrived which have taken over 6 weeks to arrive @Perki and are Echinacea "Pallida".
        upload_2020-10-17_17-58-30.png

So I potted them onto 1.5 litre pots after I'd mixed another bucket of compost, sand and potting grit and they've gone onto the Patio to over Winter.
        upload_2020-10-17_18-24-42.png

Then I had another amble around the garden doing some deheading and also filling up the Bird Feeders which now seem to need refilling every day. I remembered planting some Cyclamen, as a gamble, some weeks ago underneath the Garrya "James Roof" where the soil is not the best due to the Garrya taking most of the nutrients from the soil but, in fact, they seem to be thriving.

I've been stocking up organic liquid Fertiliser ready for next year, (I'm an optimistic:dunno::heehee:)
so I sorted out some space in the Garage where I normally keep them in 5 litre plastic cans and boxes which all now look a bit more organised and tidy. I've also got some large steel bins so I put 20 kilo of Bone Meal into one of them and put an empty bin next to it as I've ordered another 20 kilo of Blood, Fish and Bonemeal. Hurry up Spring!
Right now the Shrubs are turning into their Autumn colours..

Plus, there's still some colour here and there in the borders....

Arthritic knee has kicked in big style last few weeks so it's basically been work and home for me but started clearing out greenhouse today ready to bring in brugs and cannas, had a couple of frosty morning's this week so I thought I'd need to get the brugs in but doesn't seem so yet, also the iris reticulata I potted up beginning of October have started to sprout, I thought you pot them up in October to grow in may:scratch:

Not been on here for a few weeks - mix of new job and a lot of sorting work on the house has meant little time for the garden and less time for talking about it :rolleyespink: Hope everyone's been keeping well.

A dry weekend here meant we've started to tackle a few of the bigger garden jobs; removing several fruit tree stumps, and making a start on the ditch. The bottom boundry of the garden is a very unattractive breezeblock wall; for reasons unknown, at some point in the last 30 or so years someone dug a trench along the bottom of it and used the spoil to create a very uneven hillock. The ditch itself was then (at the same time? Later?!) partly filled back in with rubble and hardcore. The whole thing is an uneven mess at the moment, so the hopeful plan is to level it all out and eventually use the hardcore as the base for a shed (with the added benefit of hiding some of the wall), but there's a lot of stone to shift first :phew:

The overgrowth hides a lot of the unevenness in the pictures, but nothing can disguise the wall!

I think if the wall is sound then I wouldn't worry about it to much, it's something that could be painted, used to grow climbers, fruit trees etc.

It seems pretty sound, and it runs the full length of the road (there's a builders merchants behind it) so that hopefully bodes well. It's north facing and gets absolutely no sun, so I'll likely go down the painting route eventually; a friend is a mural artist so I'm toying with the idea of offering it to her as a blank canvas.

Nothing today in the garden , I did pick the odd raspberry to nimble on thought I have a look in one and found a tiny maggot in one then another and another don't know how many of them I've ate :eeew: . I believe they are spotted wing drosophila which I thought only really affect the summer fruiting variety's . Obviously its really put me off raspberries now and I may scrap the lot or at least move them onto the garage site next door .

They look very nice healthy plants @ARMANDII :dbgrtmb: keep a eye on the slugs they keep having a go at my E.pallida stock . The viburnum looking very nice with its burgundy leaves.

Your Brugmansia are doing well @mazambo well done :) . iris reticulata are very early flowering Iris more like late Febuary / March. It is a bit early for them to be sprouting but the colder weather will slow them down soon. Dutch iris are more likely to flower in May and are also bulbs, beard iris can flower in late may also but well into June / July is more common but Rhizome root system .

It's extra protein in your diet, Perki, I mean what's worse than finding a maggot in your Raspberry??........:ideaIPB:.......Oh, yeah....half a one.:hate-shocked:

I try to do a daily check for Slug and their trails and if I see any I usually sprinkle some Calcified Seaweed around, which is an old Geof Hamiliton, :love30:, trick and it does put them off. The Snails I usually find in clusters in the out of the way places if the Blackbirds don't get them.

I've been putting the non-hardy plants in the greenhouse but am struggling for room until the tomatoes are finished.

I cleared one whole section of bean growing area in the veg plot and put the cut down bean plants and the millions of blackfly on the bonfire heap. The blackfly didn't seem to reappear until after the beans had finished. :phew:

Rolled back the plastic, dug it over, composted and dug it in and the dug over area will gradually settle down quite a bit over winter. The walking areas are not dug or composted.
                        P1500022.JPG

We've already started on leaf clearing and only another few months of that to go :rolleyespink:
                        P1500037.JPG

We need to make way for more grass cuttings and leaves so the compost is dug out systematically to allow space. The rest of the compost will go on the other bean bed and courgette etc. area when the crop has finished. We have already been composting the flower beds during the year.
                        P1500038.JPG

I've also now done eight hours of pressure hosing during the week and am just recovering - sort of!

Yesterday planted a few more polyanthus and did some weeding, didn't have much time to do anything else and I've strained my chest so have to be careful.

Had a good day in the garden yesterday and have dug up and rehomed most of the Germaniums into their winter homes....just have the ones that are dotted about in the raised patio beds to do now , lots of natural dividing done and cuttings taken too.

Hope to get started on the frost tender Fuchsias today and then start to remove and store the Glad bulbs.

Yesterday I cleaned and repotted the Giant Lillies , which were also divided and some scales taken.....:fingers crossed:.
