Well, it is coming up to February when the Landscaper said he would be able to replace the Edging Setts.

I am really not looking forward to contacting him as I really do not handle confrontations well

I just need some advice, if I may?

Do you think I should be expected to pay anything to get the issues resolved?

If he does say I need to pay then I will just turn him away, remove the Setts and the cement bed myself, order the Kandla Grey Setts and the Pointing Compound myself and just pay someone to lay them.

Overthinking, me, surely not

@Kevin Cowans I'd wait a bit. It's not like it's warm enough to sit out there for any length of time so you can give him the chance to get back to you.

Does he have an email you can use to send him a message? A friendly "looking forward to seeing you next month" tone perhaps?

Thanks for the reply.

When he replied to my Email in early December, he mentioned February since the Frosts are not good for cement work, which is understandable.

I am, unfortunately, somewhat literal in the way I take in information which is why I am planning Emailing him in early February, if he gives me a date in late February that is fine.

I just want to get past this episode so I can move forward with the jobs that these issues put back.

Any thoughts on whether I should have to pay anything for him to correct the issues?

My thought is that the issues are of his making so there should be no cost to me for him to correct the issues, is my thinking correct?

If it was over here, the work to correct the original job would be considered as already paid up. I don't know about things over there

 

Hi Kevin,

It's the landscapers mistake so you shouldn't pay him anything to put the job right. If the new setts he's bringing with him cost more than those he mistakenly laid, then all you should pay him is the difference between the two, but no labour costs.

I will be glad to get past this so I can continue working through my list which has been delayed by 5 months, thus far.

You're welcome Kevin.

There is a chance he may not be working during this current virus lockdown but, being as the work is outside he may not have a problem with it.

Try not to worry about confronting him, as long as you are polite and he takes it with good grace there shouldn't be a problem.

I hope you are well

Being quite literal, i emailed the Landscaper in early February as he said he would not be able to replace the Setts until February at the earliest.

I did not get a reply, until 14 February to say that, because he will have to pay for the work himself, if I would mind if I contacted him again in early April, by that time he would have some jobs behind him and hence the money available to redo the Setts.

So, now I have to wait until April, everything is getting pushed back more and more

One of the first jobs for this Spring was to level the lawn utilising Top Dressing and then over seeding.

Will late April (?) be too late to over seed?

Also, the Sealant I wanted to use for the Patio has been discovered to be incompatible with Kandla Grey Indian Sandstone, something about the Sealant not binding to the minerals in the stone.

The company is working on a new product but it will be a awhile before the new formulation is available.

I was hoping to get the Patio, Paving and Setts all Sealed prior to getting the new Sleeper Table and Benches, so something else that has been delayed

I don't normally top dress and over seed until April at the earliest, this year because of me having the plague, it'll be into May. I haven't even put down any iron sulphate yet, that I do from valentines day but it'll be next weekend now.
I know you like an order to your plans, but sometimes you have to plan for disorder, so when things don't go the way you hoped, you have a bit of wiggle room.

Thanks for the reply, sorry to hear you have not been well, hopefully you are feeling better.

It is good to know that I will be able to top dress and over seed in May, hopefully the Landscaper will have corrected his work by then.

As you know, I find it difficult to cope with the unplanned, also, as I rely heavily on routines and having had to cope with the recent period where those routines were not there, my mind is somewhat fractured, still, but I am starting to get back to some normality, thankfully.

I will be glad when I can spend more time in the garden, I have only managed to do limited work out there at the moment, mainly due to the weather.

I hope you are well.

Well, I have finally been able to get out in the back garden and have been doing some clearing up of the plants, some pruning etc.

I have also discovered that one of the Slabs on the Patio, next to one that was replaced is rocking, corner to corner

One more thing I now need to get sorted.

I am loathe to get the Landscaper to fix this issue too, he has created too many issues as it is.

So, I will have him replace the Setts in the front garden, replace the one Sett in the back garden where he used a Raj Green Sett and not Kandla Grey and also to complete the cut on a part of the curve that was not finished properly.

I will try to get Quotes for the lifting of the rocking Slab, removal of the Full Mortar Bed and re-lay it, again on a Full Mortar Bed.

One day, the Hard Landscaping will be finished
