What sort of lilies ? to be honest its sounds like a scam unfortunately . Normally Lilies don't come in blue unless it a common name for another plant . Stick a picture on or a something similar.

I think this is the true colour of Star Gazer Lilies, Gaynor, not as show in the image of your phone.

Yes unfortunately they are not true to the description. The seeds normally come from China. Blue is one of the rarest colours in the plant world, you can't get blue roses ethier but I commonly see them on ebay

I've never grow lilies from seed before just from bulbs, expect to wait a couple of years for flowers , the plant has a lot of growing ( grow the bulb ) to get to flowering stage.

You may get somewhere off this site .

To answer Gaynor's original question. IMO. Depending perhaps on how many seeds you wish to sow. Being aware of the time lilies from seed take, to produce a flowering size bulb. I would, if I had establishe bulbs alreadi in pots/tubs etc. I'd sow seeds in the same pot. They
can then remain in situ for a couple of years. Then they can be lifted and potted up singly or in groups of three.

The Chinese are really chancing their arm here. Asverts fo many kinds of plants flowers etc as being blue is a big con. Please folks. If something takes your eye, and you want to try your hand at it. Please take time to check it out, do a bit of reseatch on it. Trust me. It can save many heartaches.

I don't think it's the Chinese per sae, Mike, pulling a con trick. There's lots of offers on the Net from other fraudsters in other countries making claims about "rare" impossibly coloured plants. Even experienced Gardeners can be tempted and fooled by them.:dunno::wallbanging:

I think growing lilies from seed is pretty much a non starter unless you are a specialist grower and looking for some rare species or other.

Not saying its impossible, just that the average gardeners interest will have waned well before you get a flower.

This is a complicated subject, yes its true, there is no true blue pigment in plants, its a compound called Anthocyanins, that in daylight make the flowers appear blue, and can change the hue/depth of the blue according to the soil acidity, which is why we get what appear to be blue flowers on plants such as Delphiniums, Felicia etc.
Lillies from seed, best done in cells/plug trays, usually best to soak the seed between wet kitchen roll/papervtowels for 2 to 3 days before planting, use a low nutrient compost, seed and cutting compost, or silver sand etc. Once planted, cover with a thick layer of course vermiculite, and give base heat of 20 to 25 degrees C. Do not let the seed dry out, and water by standing the tray in tepid water for 5 or so mins. Do not feed, germination should happen in 2 to 3 weeks with good seed. Transplant when the plug has two leaves to something like a 9cm pot, then onto a 2 litre pot when they are at the 5 or 6 leaf stage, with a descent compost, and give a balanced NPK feed regularly, I would suggest a 50% strength fortnightly. From gemination to flower should take approx 5 months, sow Jan-March for summer flowers and November for May flowering, take care transplanting, the roots can be fragile, the plant will be ok the first year, but as the bulbs form the plants will reach pertential year 2 or 3, like most Perrnial bulbs, benefit hugely from a late Summer/Autumn feeds of a NPK 0-10-10, also like Begonia, once you water early Spring, you must keep the bulb/corm wet, or it goes back to dormant stage. Best of luck with the seed quality.

Just been out to the nusery, below is a Canna Cannova series, seed planted end March 2020, because compost was in short supply, I left these plants at the 9cm stage which transplanted June, 2nd week I believe, then cut back and fed a slow release, its getting dark so the piccy is not great, had to cut the pot off, but 4 small bulbs, which I will split or pot on. That much root and bulb, 7 months after transplanting the plug, including November and December, so 5 months after transplanting.
