Outdoor kitchens

Good Afternoon all,

I have recently moved house so have a blank canvas to work on. There isn't a single plant in either the front or back gardens

First of all I need to create the hard structure before I start adding plants. First up... an outdoor kitchen area

Does anyone on here have one? If so, can you please share your pictures

I'm looking to have something like this built...

If you have something similar to the picture above, where did you get your bbq kit from?

That's beautiful! Ours consists of 2x gas BBQs (1 big one for parties), 1 Weber charcoal BBQ (for steaks), 1 x Formica table from the local charity shop, 1 x cupboard ditto, a spacious fridge and the old set of saucepans leftover from mobile home days because 'Sir' is not getting anywhere near my Le Creusets All tucked under the tiled roof overhang, with chair and radio for the chef... If he needs water, the pond's nearby

I’m using a gas plancha grill, table top smoker and under the unit theres a fridge for the salad stuff, drinks, sauces etc etc

 

Is this a good place for me to post my rocket stove from last year.

You jest?? Just been to have a close look..the table legs have gone rusty, the fridge needs another coat of paint, the cat's been spraying the front of the big BBQ (full-time job) and my collection of 20 watering cans is nestled in front, awaiting a refill lol. I've got 2 excellent excuses...BBQing is not my domain, and here in France, it's the food that counts, not the equipment .....(angel smiley) lol.

 

@Victoria my outdoor set seems the same vintage as yours. I store the chairs inside and disassemble the table and bag it in the winter. I made new cushion covers for mine from brightly coloured sunbrella because the original cloth was not much to my liking.

I use a gas barbecue, gas from mains. And a wood oven and a sun oven. No refrigeration as the kitchen is right next to the deck and that fridge has an ice maker.

 

Oh yes, they are Lori. I have round table and you have square/rectangle. Luckily I can leave mine out all year (well, the cushions go in a weatherproof unit). We have put those chairs in our Jungle Room now and replaced with mesh ones.

I am fascinated/interested in your sun oven. Did you make it? If so, how?

Kitchen window is to the right with sink directly underneath and kitchen has counter top ice machine on peninsular. Wall to left is detached outdoor living room (ex-chicken run 20 square meters with bar) so everything handy if we used it!



There is a small fridge next to the bar. Kitchen patio is behind the three windows.

 

I did make a small sun oven as an experiment to make sure I wouldn't be disappointed in ordering a ready made unit. I just used a small cardboard box, lined with tin foil and made wings out the same. Then put a piece of glass from a small picture frame on top. Worked fine. So I ordered one and on a sunny day, it works wonderfully. Gets up to about 375f.

And I need to make a new cover for the wood oven as the old has finally become a bit tattered. It is great for baking breads and pizza and lots of other things. I can't find my pic of it but this is the model I have.

I enjoy cooking outside in the summer because I just love being out there and I don't heat up the house doing it.

 

@CanadianLori is it possible to control the heat on a sun oven?

 

Now I think back, or friend here made one of those some ten years ago or more. I remember him making chilli in it. Thought I had a photo but can't find it. With over 300 days of sun a year, it makes sense.

 

When I just want things to "simmer" in there, I simply loosen the lid so that some heat escapes. It does have a thermometer and I can easily clamp down or loosen up as needed. The other way is to turn the whole thing slightly so that the sun is not beaming dead center. That also adjusts the heat. I have it on a wheeled cart so I can spin it easily. I just like having something that uses no fuel. The only down side is that it is useless on a cloudy day. Lots of these are donated to third world countries where they have no means, other than the sun, to cook. It also came with a kit that has a gauge for when water has reached the point where it is potable. Also a good thing in some countries.

 

that looks great but the only thing I would suggest leave a space at the back so you can maintain the fence also consider the neighbours

as my daft neighbour puts his barbeque next to my fence close to the house , burns all the roses and honeysuckle and fills my house with smoke !!

 

What is it with people who always shove the barbie right up against the other side of your fence.
