Hi all. I've grown some Nicotiana sylvestris from seed but I've got a feeling it's a bit pointless planting them out now? Will I be able to overwinter them in the greenhouse? Thanks in advance.

I have never tried to overwinter them in the greenhouse. Down here they quite often come through the winter.
As they grow quite rapidly I'd be inclined to plant them out and see how they do.
If you keep them in the pots they will rapidly outgrow the pots.

@mazambo please do plant them out. They really take off quickly once in the ground and talk about self seeding- they are very prolific! I have lots of white ones popping up in my garden from last year's planting. I only grow the coloured ones in pots because over here the fragrant white ones grow to about 4 feet high. I have never had one overwinter but then again, look at my zone!

We got 2 in a pot much like yours about a month ago - they are planted out and now starting to shoot up nicely.

I've never considered trying to overwinter in the greenhouse I grow from seed each year. Mine definitely die left outside so I feel ann experiment coming on come autumn.

Anyone know the minimum temperature needed ?

I don't know what minimum temperature they need but we overwintered a plant in our car port. It was unintentional. It was left there amongst the hundreds of pot plants we have in the car port and flowered the following year. This year is year three and it had again survived the winter but we gave it away to someone who bought a load of plants so don't know how well it is doing.

This year's plants have only just started to flower. Some are in the bed outside my office so I've just taken this photo through the window. They're not that close to the window (about 5ft) and the furthest one is about 6ft tall.
