    Hello all

    I hope you are well.

Well, after a rough nights sleep, I think I have decided what I am doing, I think :)

I will ring the Landscaper this week and cancel the scheduled work, without issue, hopefully, and then I will get 'Acer Landscapes' to visit and give me a Quote for the work.

They are currently booking work in for February / March but I would rather wait and get it done right.

So, I will see what happens when they visit.

In the meantime I think I will still get the Furniture so that I can make use of the garden whilst I wait for the work to be done.

Hopefully, having the furniture will not hinder the work, it can be put on the grass so should be out of the way, I will check with them when they visit.

    Thanks

    Kevin

      Hello all

      I hope you are well.

Well, I just rang the Landscaper and cancelled the work scheduled for August, needless to say, I am still shaking but at least that is now done.

Now onto finding someone else to do the work.

I have just got off the Phone with Acer Landscaping and they are going to get back to me to arrange a visit to look at the work and give me a Quote.

They are currently taking bookings for February / March but I would rather wait and get it done right than not.

      Thanks

      Kevin

          Hello all

          I hope you are well.

Well, the issues never end :(

I have just got in touch with the company that make the Tables and Benches to place my Order, and, due to Covid, the company has ceased trading.

I feel for the company but back to square one I guess.

          All fun :(

          Hi Kevin,

I think you were wise to cancel the landscaper, with that out of the way your nerves can settle a bit. Let's hope the new one comes good for you, despite a possible wait.

It's unfortunate the company that would have produced your furniture has ceased trading. Another step back for you but with another search you may find something similar elsewhere and maybe something you like better.

@Kevin Cowans I am glad that you made that decision and carried through in spite of your trepidation!

Don't know if this any comfort to you, but I am still waiting for an 8 foot section of fence to be installed. Paid almost £1k up front and was promised latest installation 6 weeks, arrangements to do so at the 5 week mark.

I've dealt we these people before, and trust them but it is an economy which is like paradise for contractors right now.

Hopefully by next year, things will start correcting back to the same old, same old. :)

            In tne meantime,

            Hello @Sheal and @CanadianLori

            Thanks for the reply.

I have found a company that does the Table and Benches made to measure, however, they are more expensive than the previous company.

I have a couple of things to sort out and I will hopefully be placing the order.

A couple of questions for you.

My Patio is not that big, it measures approximately 4500mm x 2400mm.

I am looking at a Table 2000mm long and 800mm Wide, do you think 800mm Wide is wide enough for a Table?

Also, the Benches with this company are 400mm as opposed to 200mm Wide previously so I am thinking of just getting the one Bench rather than two, after all, there is only me.

I am trying to measure everything up but am getting myself all muddled.

The Patio is 2400mm, so, with the Table at 800mm and the Bench at 400mm, leaving a gap of 300mm to be able to sit down that will leave approximately 450mm on either side of the Table and Bench, would that be enough?

            Thanks

            Kevin

              1k up front Lori!
My alarm bells are ringing. Whenever i book any contractor it's on a 'pay on the day' basis.
If they ask for money in advance i tell them thanks and I'll get back to you..
When i had my patio laid i found a good Polish guy. He quoted a good price and said I could pay on completion.
He put in really deep foundations and i was really pleased. I gave him a bit more than he'd asked for because he'd worked so hard.
But i have to agree that it's not always easy to find a good honest tradesman.

@JR I should have mentioned that this is a custom job. Custom height, custom colour. Most metal fencing is black and I had the original fencing down the sides of the house powder coated in brown. I wanted this panel to match.

And yes, it is a trust thing. The last time they worked for me, I only had to pay 50% up front. I'll wait until probably Tuesday then poke them again. I try not to tick them off :)

                  Hello @Sheal

I was at secondary school at a time, 1977 to 1982 when both Imperial and Metric were being taught so I now use mm, cm, meter, inch, yard, mile, km etc. whatever is at hand really :)

                  Same with weights.

                  It gets complicated sometimes :)

You were lucky to be in the era where both were taught at school. :) My three children were born between 1976 and 1980, so the dates are very close to those you spent at secondary school. That makes me feel old!

                    Sounds a bit squeezed Kevin.
Only 300mm gap to sit down..
I wonder if you could borrow some items from your dining room to mock up the proposed set up. (failing that possibly just use chalk to draw the layout?) Then at least you'd know if it's workable.

                    Hello @JR

The 300mm is the gap between the Table Top Edge and the Front of the Bench not the total space available to sit, the Bench is 400mm wide, sorry, I did not explain it well.

Unfortunately, I do not have a Dining Room or Dining Furniture, however, I have been doing some research, I am good at that, and it seems that most places are saying that the Table Top should overhang the Bench by a couple of inches or the Table Top can be level with the Front of the Bench.

Apparently, this is so the person sitting is not slouching, so the 300mm I have accounted for seems to be overkill.

I will speak to the Manufacturer tomorrow before I place my Order on Wednesday.

                    Thanks

                    Kevin

                    Hello @Sheal

Sorry I have made you feel old, remember, you are only as old as you believe you are :)

The thing with my Autism is that I tend to perceive time differently and as such age does not mean anything to me as I feel every age simultaneously, all fun.

                    How is your arm doing?

                    Take care.
