What are the earlies seeds you sow? When?

Started rocotos/locotos early December. Next will be other varieties of chillis end of January, all under lights. Then I'll wait until I have 10 hours of daylight at the end of February to start sowing a lot of other things, onions, brassicas, cold hardy herbs etc

 

I sowed some over New Year: some pelargoniums on a heat mat in the greenhouse (1 germinated), and on a windowsill indoors I have snapdragons (loads germinated already) and laurentia (not germinated yet).

I know it's early, but it gets so busy in spring with all the potting-on that I'm trying to stagger my seed-sowing a bit more this year.

 

I have to wait for the light levels to increase before i can sow anything, so next month will be the Snapdragons.

 

Have you tried taking cuttings off your Antirrhinums @Logan?? Very easy to root, some of mine that I took last Sept are in bloom!!

 

@Upsydaisy no I don't take cuttings of the Snapdragons because they get rust, but I haven't got room for them, thanks Upsydaisy.

 

Great tip! I will try that later this year. Question though, on last year's antirrhinums, is it worth cutting them back and protecting the roots with a mulch in the hope they'll perform again next year? Or should I just pull them out and forget it?

 

You could try it if you don't want to plant anything else there, I'd put some fleece over them instead of the mulch. Mine do start shooting from the base so it could work, I've thought about digging them up and potting them up but where to put them.
