My worry regarding pets is yes its ok when dry but does the chemicals become reactive again when it rains.

I don't use chemicals near any of the flower beds so generally use a pressure washer unless the mess on the paving has been left too long. When it had gotten really bad I used Wet and Forget which is supposed to be OK near plants, but now that I've got it clean I give it a regular blast with the pressure washer.

Our circumstances are a bit different from most as I have a great deal of paving so find a regular quick blast is the best way to go. I have already done the first blast of the year about two weeks ago but not when it is freezing.

I’ve also wondered about that. It does continue working after application and after rain. I would have thought that if it was a hazard for pets when the surface gets wet again then the manufacturer would need to state this on the labelling but logic isn’t always reality these days!

Do you think they would sell much if they did? It would be classed as dangerous to wildlife as well.
    So I just dont know.

In some ways I do know how bleach works but you would need to be a chemist to work out what this and other cleaners are they cant really be biodegradable or they wouldn't continue to work.

I used wet and forget last year and it killed the weeds off growing through my slabs a treat:biggrin:
So I wouldn't get it near plants

I've just bought some Algon patio cleaner to try - it's organic and safe for pets but will scorch grass and plants. The active ingredient is acetic acid so it should be good with fish and chips too .

I’ll avoid the spray so it’ll just be the paving smelling of vinegar I hope . (I also hope next door’s cats don’t think fish and chips are on offer.)

We used some Algon last year and it did remove the young green type of algae from the flags but the older and much darker/blackish round shaped areas were unaffected even after a week or more.

Tried scrubbing bleach into those areas and yes it will remove them but cannot use it on all the flags as they drain away onto the garden soil and the bleach residue would affect the plants

Will that Patio Magic lift off those really stubbon darker algae marks ?

We use Patio Magic now but at our last property, where we had a resin bound gravel patio, we used to spray white vinegar on mucky patches. It worked a treat.

I find it does on my paving.
Sometimes you may need to give it 2-3 sprayings if the marks are very stubborn, but I've found it very good over the years.
I use Patio Magic or Wet & Forget - whichever is cheapest at the time. They both seem to do the same sort of job.
