Do you mean German Shepards? That is a shame if you do, they should be trained and on leash if they act like that. I had two awesome ones in my life both went into advance obedience training, got trophies, they would never bite someone who was simply walking or biking a trail. We took our boys on vacations, that allowed dogs, one at a time, they were very social and polite. I would take them to local post office, gift stores, hardware stores, garden shops. I had sales clerks say they'd rather have my boy in their ship than kids. I got to practice certain commands when at stores ---taking advantage of the distractions needed to refine their focus on me. All was good. But it takes work, every evening working on some skill for an hour, and weekends 4 hours. Walks are not just walks they are training sessions, at heel, figure 8, stay/wait etc. They love it. In the house he helped me with picking up the dirty sock I accidently dropped, getting the news paper, finding hidden items. Their mental acuity is awesome, but needs people willing to work with it.

Yes, @redstar, I meant German Shepherds. I think the French keep them as guard dogs and they don't get much training or love. Sometimes they escape from the gardens they are left in when their owners are at work. I am afraid of them now.

I managed to do an hour in the veg garden before it rained and have planted my potatoes.

That is good going @Penny_Forthem , your team have really pulled out all the stops for you.

Well, we managed to do it, although it took nearly all day. A tricky job mainly because of all the different levels around the house which involved three stepladders at different heights. It didn't help as it was so windy today either. The ratchet straps we bought are pretty useless so I'll have to get more heavy duty ones at some point. Forgive the mess, we had to lift out lots of stored old concrete roof tiles from behind the old garage in order to get the tall stepladder in place. The wall is about 4ft high and the fence on top 6ft so the fixing points weren't easy to reach.

            Afternoon!

The sun finally came out around 4pm - a bit watery but warmish. I bought 6 geraniums at Aldi and did an oblong planter with 2 for the kitchen window sill and poked the other 4 into other large pots on the terrace. They are small but the roots were hanging out the bottom!! Little weeds seem to have sprouted everywhere so I patiently lifted them out!!

Good on you @Debs64 to help your daughter. I think we all would do the same for family and friends. No rain here @Obelix-Vendée I'm having to water.

You are having such great help @Penny_Forthem I hope it makes your life easier. I had a new toilet installed when I moved here and they are higher than the old ones. Much better when you are desperate!!! When I had my hip op, I had a plastic "toilet seat" that was placed on the toilet which raised it a good 6/9 inches higher - much more comfortable. I just put it into the bath and doused it with disinfectant and hot water to wash.

I wouldn't hit a big dog like that @Ladybird4 she is just a bit higher than my handlebars, but I have encountered her before and when she bounded down her drive, I was walking with Fizz and so I did "the tree" and shouted STOP!! I put my arm up (like a Hitler salute!) and she stopped so one day I asked the owners what her name was. There have been complaints to the local bobbies but nothing has been done really. So, I figured that with authority on my part - she will obey but yesterday was frightening for Fizz. When I shouted STOP STOP she let Fizz go - Fizz fled homeward. The PMD barked at me, but I just told her quietly that I wasn't a threat and to be a good girl and let me past. I just cycled past.....expecting to be jumped from behind!! All this are on pathways through horticultural and lucerne fields. We did the same circuit this afternoon, and no PMD - but a wary Fizz as we passed their driveway.

            Enjoy your evening everyone.

I am so sorry for that, what a shame. I found them easy enough to train them, but I take on the burden if he did not get it, its my fault and I had to figure out how to help him get it. We do not have a fenced in property, 3 acres, when he was out, I was out, he knew the property line and never left. With continual praises of "stay with me",, they get it. A cute story--- one day brother in law was visiting, brought his dog, both dogs outside off lead in the back playing, for some reason, his dog decided to get to the front of the property and run up the road. My boy went to the front corner of the property, and sat on the corner watching the dog run up the road, he did not leave. My good boy. our houses sits far back from the road, about 100 paces.

My boys were trained never to walk through a flower bed, but to walk around it. We have a creek out back, my boy loved the creek, but of course muddy paws happen, he got so that when he saw the towel come down he'd lift his paws to help with the clean off. And the second one had a chronic ear infection, the only thing that stopped it was Swimmer' ear drops. He go so , all he had to see was me take the bottle off the window sill, and say Time for the drops for him to lay down instantly, and position the correct ear upward for me to put the drops in. and of course lots of kisses after. I could go on, so many things. miss my boys. miss the hugs.

Good evening all. @Penny_Forthem you are getting top class service aren't you? I am really pleased for you. My friend had one of those glorious thrones that fitted her toilet when she had her hip replacements. She did used to laugh about it but it did its job. Jack has one too - and grab handles everywhere. However, none of these helped him last week when he decided to walk on his laminate floor in just his socks and he came a right cropper. He is recovering OK though he did take a lot of skin off his right shoulder.
My youngest sister has had several German Shepherds and the first thing she does is get them enrolled into puppy training school where they are socialised with other dogs and learn how to behave. I am pleased to say that she has had absolutely no problems whatsoever and whilst I was nervous meeting her first GS (another Max, Ante) I had no need to worry. He was gorgeous and so gentle. I do remember him trying to get on my knee when he was the size of a Shetland pony.
@lizzie27 I love your shade sail and can imagine you making the most of our Summer days sitting in its shelter when needed. Hope you get the ratchet straps you need.

Good morning all. Yesterday went well got lots done and my daughter appreciated it, we popped to the local Harvester for tea, she is living on takeaway sandwiches at the moment and that’s not good but she is so busy. My lovely OH is giving up his day off tomorrow to help her finish stuff off. There are walls to paint if she wants her deposit back and a tip run to do.
I am away after work to Wem for a girls weekend with friends and my sister. Off to work this morning then I will pack. Busy busy!

Hello everyone. It looks like its going to be a fabulous day today. Must do some more watering first thing then I'm out for lunch with the Quizzers. The venue is very near to me and I've never eaten there before so I am looking forward to it. I started dead heading my daffs yesterday. Now I am beginning to realise just how many I've got!
Enjoy whatever you have planned for today - I will!

We had some rain overnight, the first for quite a while. I was expecting to need to get the hose out, but everything in the garden is looking perky this morning.

The house is clean and tidy now, and beds made, ready for the family to arrive on Monday. I've still got a bit of preparatory cooking to do, but I'm hoping to get into the garden later. The grass is growing like crazy... to say nothing of the weeds!

                              Good morning all.

We've just been to the weekly market. The fresh green French asparagus was in. They only had the white sort, which I don't care for, in the SM. I also bought broad beans, fennel and stringless runner beans. They had looked very tired at the SM. Then we had coffee in a café and a friend of OH's who he first met when they were in the choir, now folded, joined us.

                                Good afternoon to you all!
The sun is peeping out after a very grey morning.

Snap! @Busy-Lizzie spring vegetables are in the markets with the addition of artichokes which I love. The SM had the big green ones for 1€79 last week (each) and 1 euro yesterday. Very dear!!
The egg lady had taken leave for a week so no fresh eggs this week. Never mind. I still have some from last week.

House work this afternoon - after a rest and I am making oeufs mimosa with a smoked salmon platter - I have to make some blinis myself as there were none at the SM yesterday. I have mussels which I will open and gratin the half shell. The white is in the fridge!! Yes, my lovely friend is coming from Montpellier early evening.

I hope you all have a pleasant Friday.
