        GW 8pm tonight.

"As spring continues apace, Monty plants up the Mound with a gorgeous palette of blues and yellows, delves into the wonderful world of garden compost and makes a start on sowing some succulent summer veg.

Sue Kent is busy in her garden in Swansea getting her garden ready for summer and, as always, has one or two experiments on the go.

Frances Tophill enjoys a stunning display of wisteria at a National Collection for Plant Heritage in Surrey, where these magnificent plants can be seen in all their wondrous forms.

There’s a self-confessed compost obsessive who thinks this incredible ecosystem is the ‘coolest thing on the planet’, vital to the health and wellbeing of the soil. Plus a gardener in Bristol whose love of plants has resulted in some truly beautiful borders."

        Beechgrove 7pm (in most areas)

"Gardening for wildlife, vegetables and small spaces are all covered in this episode. Brian plants shrubs in the garden for wildlife, choosing varieties that will encourage and help pollinators.

Ruth starts her own vegetable plot that she will use as her entry in this year’s presenter veg-growing competition. She also starts her vertical garden, ideal for anyone with just a small space in which to grow. Ruth also tackles this year’s tomatoes in the 6x8 greenhouse, and she tests an automatic irrigation system that could be a great idea if you have to leave your precious plants to go on holiday this summer.

There are tips on what you should be doing with your dahlias right now, and Ruth sows lentils, which will be great for soup later in the year. "

An interesting episode this week I thought.

I particularly enjoyed the garden in Bristol with the beautiful borders. I love all the colours, although I appreciate that it's not to everyone's taste.

Learnt a lot about wisteria, also compost. I did enjoy Michael's enthusiasm and it reminded me to check my compost bins .

Sue Kent's tip about placing an empty pot in the border as a reminder of where you want to plant something (in her case Agastache) is one I will definitely use in the future. Will the 5 and a half pence packet of seeds produce anything I wonder ?

Finally, Monty's tulips in pots looked stunning, Ned looked bored, and the time passed quickly .

It’s a nice gentle programme to watch and I can ‘switch off’ for an hour although I do agree that the same things are repeated every year and I would like to know more about pruning for example especially at this time of year. I think these subjects are a bit rushed and don’t go into much detail.
I also agree that that long section on Monty’s garden for Chelsea was interesting but should be a stand alone programme when there’s a lot to do now and I want to learn!
It would be good to have an early programme in February to show what plants & seeds they will be focussing on later in the season so viewers can get organised & buy seeds etc early, often I find the presenters will say here’s some flower or veg that they planted 2 months ago & now they are planting them out or potting on already!
I enjoyed Carols section and it’ll be interesting to see how that develops in the coming weeks, although, (my last little moan) I always think crikey how much would that cost me? A nice big terracotta pot £30-£40? Each plant in my local garden centre is £12.99 & often the presenters will put 4-5 in a pot to give instant impact! Hence I’m keen to try growing from seed.
I was very interested in the compost section I have had a lot of problems this year with seeds not germinating I think it’s the awful compost the manufacturers are now supplying & the contents do look “dead” full of sticks and stones and often bits of plastic, no wonder plants aren’t growing.

My daughter bought me the May edition of Gardeners World Magazine, cost
£9.99. Almost every other page was an advert, most of the articles were,
I can remember shown every year.

                8pm tonight.

" In this special edition, Joe Swift and Rachel de Thame are in the North Wessex Downs spending the day at Malverleys, a stunning garden transformed in just 14 years by a very talented head gardener. Spring is a busy time, and there is plenty for them to muck in with. Joe is planting plugs and getting involved in some essential pond maintenance, while Rachel shows a clever way of growing tulips and repots some beautiful orchids.

Arit Anderson is in the heart of Manchester, discovering how, against the odds, the creation of the city’s newest park has inspired a garden at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

In the Peak District, there’s a couple ripping up the rule book on veg growing - and wow, does it work! Also, meet a gardener who has transformed a long-forgotten plot into an incredible secret horticultural hideaway "

Marcus Wareing is great, a judge on Masterchef the Professionals and did own a two star Michelin restaurant.

I haven’t been a big fan of AT Gardening Club this year, lacks any real depth and a lot if indoor plants and visiting other named gardens, than anything practical.

It made a change to see Joe and Rachel on GW and some of the tips were very useful. It seemed to have a different vibe altogether.

I don't mind the Gardening Club as a sort of background viewing if you know what I mean. It's a shame that Camilla is visiting the gardens in what looks like February/ early March as they all seem much the same.

                    8pm tonight
" Gardeners’ World comes from the spectacular RHS Malvern Spring Festival in Worcestershire. Adam Frost and Sue Kent explore show gardens bursting with clever ideas and creative planting, sharing expert advice and tips to try at home.

There’s a visit to Devon to meet the master grower who’s turning the spotlight on the majestic Camassia – a spring-flowering star – and get a first look at brand new cultivars being shown to the public for the very first time.

Plus the moving story of a first-time designer who’s using bold, exotic planting to share a deeply personal experience of recovery and resilience, creating a show garden that aims to move as much as it inspires. And there’s a chance to discover the secret world of terrariums with a man whose miniature green worlds are filled with tiny, jewel-like plants – perfect inspiration for small spaces or indoor gardening.

All set against the dramatic backdrop of the Malvern Hills – a spring celebration not to be missed."

I do love the Malvern Show .

I did enjoy last night's programme, although I wish they'd cut down on the length of the VTs and show more of the actual Show itself.
Having said that, I did enjoy the eloquence of the Camassia lady and also the young nurseryman Dan. His Grandma was a star !

Geums appear to be the plant of the moment.

Malvern really is the most beautiful setting and it brought back many happy memories of visits to the show over the years. Can't beat a lovely "drone shot".

Haven't seen it all yet but caught a bit while cooking dinner. Seems to me they overdo all the VTs when covering the shows - especially Chelsea - when they should be concentrating on the gardens and nursery stands at the show itself.

Why are they showing videos, surely people want to see what's happening at the show.
