Wednesday. lots of details things today to get at. Continue Taxes. Write a bunch of checks for the mail. Continue to organize the trips we are taking this year. Pull a few weeds out in the garden. Visitor today to pick up some car parts he already paid for, he's from Canada, via Michigan, somehow he's attending a car thing in Carlile, PA two hours from us. How folks find us is amazing. People really want the original parts.
Really want to upload a pic of the view from my deck, if it works, SMH. will try later.
Anyway, have a grand day all.

@Obelix-Vendée , I grow lots of other veg from seed , I've just found that the brassicas need sowing at a time that I don't have the time or space, to do it, as well as the other reasons I gave.

Hopefully this will work. A shot of back garden from my deck. For distance the Gazebo you see down there is 100 paces from our house back door. Equal from front, house is 100 paces from street. We sit on 3 acres, protected woods of ruffly 20 acres behind us. So very private. BackYard.jpg

Hello there everyone. I had a lovely visit today and it was very interesting seeing all the trees in bloom - well apart from the pears which have already finished but it certainly looks as if there will be a good crop of those this year. I was shown the red tagged trees, samples of which will go for DNA testing to the Niab (National Institute of Agricultural Botany) at East Malling in Kent. Apparently it costs about £95 for each test! Here are a few pictures:

I was most interested reading your post about the Irish trees @Liriodendron as they have got an Irish tree (just the one) in the collection. I've emailed my friend to ask him the name of it.

As others have already commented @Penny_Forthem don't be rushing into anything and undoing the good work done on you shoulder. Be a patient patient! Sorry that @lizzie27 and @Obelix-Vendée are smitten with bugs of various types. When you say you are down to 2 chooks @Obelix-Vendée, how many did you have and will you replace them? My tree friend lost the last of his chooks to the local fox.

Evening folks. Lovely to see Spring pictures! My apple blossom is just going over (has been windy) after a lovely show. Hopefully it will be a good apple year, as last year wasn’t.

I am pretty tired and it’s only day one of three in a row shifts! We were too busy to eat the biscuits I brought in today, so will try again tomorrow. One of my colleagues messaged me for some gardening advice yesterday - I was chuffed to be asked!

Take care all, particularly those having a rough or tough time.

Having seen this year's blossom up close and plentiful I do have think that apple blossom is the prettiest and I have apricot, cherry, nectarine, peach, pear and plum too. Pomegranate will come later but is striking in colour rather than pretty.

Have a god sleep to recharge your batteris @AuntyRach and anyone else feeling exhausted.

@Ladybird4 we first rescued 5 speckled hens in September 2020. They were wonderful and fiendly and lasted 3 years. We then rescued 5 Leghorns from an egg producer in October 23. One died very soon but had at least had a taste of freedom, space and fresh fossicking for food. Another lasted a year and a 3rd died this last weekend. The other 2 are in fine fettle and back to laying daily after a pause whilst the 3rd faded. No idea what was wrong with her but she stopped laying then stopped eating and finally keeled over. Vet had no idea.

Leghorns are much less sociable and much more suspicious as a breed but are now used to us, help with all veg gardening tasks and chat a lot. They have good quality seed with added linseed, chia and baked eggshell, mixed grain rice with added garlic and thyme for breakfast, leftover fresh veggies from the kitchen and a daily dollop of sweetcorn plus all the grubbing about they do in the veg plot for insects, worms, slugs, snails etc so plenty of variety. Their water is laced with cider vinegar and vitamins.

They get locked in their shed at night so no foxes yet. I dare say we'll get more rescues when this pair go. Great fun and the eggs are just lovely.

Just realised it's Saint George's Day, England's saint. St Patrick gets mentioned and St David's Day but no one on any social media that I've looked at has mentioned Saint George.

Daughter 1 and family arrived in the afternoon. They are all quite tired after the journey from France and 2 days exploring London and visiting Cambridge today. Another busy day tomorrow, we are going to Holkham Hall.

Dinner went down well. I made a chicken casserole and a sort of trifle with compote of blueberries on sponge cake topped with whipped cream with lemon juice and lemon curd in it.

Good morning again all. Today is looking as though it could be a reasonable one for being in the garden. There is plenty of work to do still.
I'm due to go to our local heritage trust quiz tonight. I could do with having @Ladybird4 on my team. I think I'll be asleep for much of it, due to my early start of the day.
