I managed to do a couple of hours outside. Sitting on a chair I finished clearing the small path overgrown with brambles. I want to have a bonfire but because it is Bank Holiday, sunny and windy my neighbours keep putting washing out so I must wait. There are so many more brambles to clear everywhere. I have cut them back and left the root stumps to spray with glyphosate to kill them.
The geraniums and perlagoniums I left out all winter, unprotected, are just coming into flower, even the ivy leaved geranium has survived. A bit weedy but alive. The acer Golden Dream is a picture, unearthed an acer in a pot, buried under the brambles, I had forgotten it was there. I think it has died back to the graft as the leaves are light green and dissected , but still alive.
I think I have lost my Restoria, there are a lot of dead stems in the clump, must try and clear it out to see if the is still life somewhere.
Made a Carbonara for dinner from some of the gammon I cooked for last week-end and a few mushrooms. Quiche and salad tonight.

      Morning folks.

I’m feeling a bit under the weather today but I’ll have to dose-up and perk-up as Dad needs my help with something this morning. I’ll pot-on my lettuces and tomatoes later. I lost a few lettuce seedlings in the heat but that ok as I will sow more every few weeks through summer.

I hope everyone is doing ok and can have a pleasant Sunday.

        Good morning all.

@Debs64 I'm glad the funeral went well. Always difficult occasions.

@Goldenlily26 glyphosate works by being absorbed through the leaves. It may not work by being sprayed onto root stumps. Might be best to wait for new leaves to grow to spray it onto.

It's much colder, cloudy, drizzled a bit just after I hung out the washing.

I must make a list of places to visit when we go to Cornwall this week.

Greetings. It's cool and cloudy so back to trousers and t-shirts with sleeves for the week to come.

I'm busy baking banana and cardamom cakes - one sugar free to take to patch, one normal for Possum's class tomorrow and some buns for Possum's breakfasts this week. Rain expected later so I shall pop out and check all my babies then do some sewing. OH has been outside all morning but wil probably iron this pm whilst watching golf/cricket/whatever.

This is the last day or our 4 day weekend but we have another next week as VE day is a Thursday and another at the end of May for Ascension Thursday then a 3 day for Pentecost in June.

Enjoy the BH weekend all you Brits. I hope you get sun or rain as preferred.

Bit of a lazy morning here.
Sun and a gentle breeze, tho' definitely cool.
He built the new garden storage seat yesterday and it's larger than we both imagined. Er, did we check its measurements? Of course not, that would have been far too sensible.
It's still in the dining room; I'm keeping quiet...

Afternoon all. We had a leisurely morning start then my daughter and I decided to have a mooch around Bath. Started at the top end but we were sad to see our big department store Jollys all shut up and empty, so many other little shops as well. It seems that Bath has become like a lot of other places, one giant eatery, every other shop seemed to be a cafe or takeaway. No wonder so many people are fat but to be fair, we stopped for a coffee and cake half way round as I needed a rest. We did make that do instead of lunch.
I bought a small manual coffee grinder as OH has never forgiven me for throwing his old manky one away and yet another pair of trainers for me in plain white. My current pair have a bright blue insert so they don't 'go' with some of my clothes. It became a bit chilly by 2pm so we called it a day and went home.

Oops @Penny_Forthem, kind of thing I do very often, have you managed to get it out of the dining room door yet?

Hope you've not picked up another lurgy @AuntyRach. Hope your Dad is okay as well.

Sea bass for tonight with asparagus, sweetcorn and rice washed down with a posh prosecco which was meant for daughter's birthday last week. Fresh fruit medley for afters.

Hope everyone has had an enjoyable day.

So sad to hear that Jolly’s has closed, @lizzie27. It was always a bit outside my price range, but I did buy plenty of stuff in their sales, over the 20 odd years we lived nearby.
Trying to do a bit of gardening this weekend, but a bit daunted by the hot weather. OH cut some grass, and I rescued four big primroses which are moving to the bank under the trees.
Bank holidays can get chaotic on the roads round here, so we tend to stay home and avoid the crowds. Shouldn’t be a hardship, as we live in a gorgeous area with lots of trees, and it’s very quiet. However it does mean that I can’t ignore the myriad of jobs staring at me through the windows! I have caught up on the laundry though.
Experimental cookery today! OH has been hankering for toad in the hole, so I made one in the air fryer! I had bought some disposable paper liners which work well for chicken kyivs, so I used one of those. I part cooked the sausages in it first, then poured in the batter. Didn’t rise as much as it could have done, but it was very tasty, and OH was very happy. Maybe a higher temperature setting next time.
Glad the funeral went well, @Debs64. Very bittersweet, reminiscing about loved ones.

Good evening everyone. Well it has been decidedly chilly here today - despite the sun trying to kid me it was warm. You must live in a specially mild area of Cornwall @Goldenlily26 to have all those wonderful plants get through the winter. They definitely would not survive in my garden. Sorry to read that you are feeling a bit one degree under @AuntyRach. I hope it passes soon. When are you heading off for your break in Cornwall @Busy-Lizzie?
I have no specific plans for tomorrow but I would like to get my hanging baskets done. That job is now at the top of my 'to do' list. Window cleaning has been relegated for now! I smiled at your description of the storage seat building @Penny_Forthem, as, like @lizzie27, that is exactly the sort of thing I have done in the past only in my case it was a cold frame. To say the air was blue would be putting it mildly.
I am signing out for today. Fingers crossed we all have a good night's rest and a happy day tomorrow.

@Ladybird4 I look forward to a good night's sleep once the visiting feline situation is resolved. Two visits last night after I went to bed and it/they are quiet with the catflap but noisy with the eating and that's after emptying the bowl I leave outside so still think it's 2 pussies.

Bit of gardening done today and lots of cooking and some sewing. I made some more sneaky chocolate avocado mousse pots to have with strawberries after our slow roast belly pork. Looking forward to a good flop with some TV and embroidery now.

I hope everyone's had a good day and that we all have a good week, whatever we're doing.

Well at least it is for some of us. Goodness @Obelix-Vendée, we who have or once had cats know just how disturbing cat noises at night can be whether it be love or war or just a sneaky 'break in' through the cat flap. My ex cat sitter Jack's daughter has one of those posh cat flaps that is activated by microchips in both her cats so that no visitors can get in. Mine is just an ordinary one - with a clear window so that Cricket can judge the weather and all those threats that are invisible to our eyes but require careful cat scrutiny before an exit is made.

Good morning all. Rather grey here but I have a whole day of gardening planned and actually it’s easier if it’s cooler. Today is the first day of my week off I intend to enjoy every minute of not being at work. It’s such a shame that what was basically a part time easy job with people I liked has turned into a difficult and stressful hard slog. No time for a chat really just constant aggravation from start to finish. Community pharmacies are on their knees and management are always wanting more, our area manager is off for 3 months with stress and he isn’t the first or last by a long chalk! I know I should look for another job really but at my age I don’t want to. I just keep hoping for things to get better and there are some good days. Meanwhile I am lucky in every other aspect of my life so I try to stay cheerful.
Hope everyone has fun things planned for their bank holiday

                                Good morning all.

We put the heating back on yesterday. I've been trying to get all the garden watered as there is no rain forecast. There was a horrid nippy wind in the garden.

I've been researching places and gardens to visit in Cornwall and I've booked tickets for St Michael's Mount. I was pleased to find that NT members are free, saved £56.

I would like to go to Lanhydrock and Trelissick too, which are both National Trust. We are only there for 4 nights.

We've already been to Heligan, the Eden Project, Trebah and Trewithen.

We'll stay with OH's niece on the way in Bristol. She works from home a lot so we'll visit Wells and a nearby garden to leave her in peace for the day. I don't think I've ever been to Wells. We'll stay with friends in Wiltshire on the way home.

We are off to Bristol tomorrow.
