    Morning All,

I have a small buxus hedge with Hydrangea Annabelle sat behind, and as it was starting to dwarf the hydrangea, I've given it a bit of a trim.

I have removed the larger twigs, but the leaves (mainly new growth) have fallen in and around the hydrangea - I was going to tidy it up and add some more compost around the plants, but would it be OK (or even beneficial) to cover the clippings with the compost instead?

Rather than being lazy, I'm thinking that is extra nutrients that I would otherwise just take to the compost heap anyway! I just don't want to have any adverse impact on the Annabelle's, which now have flower buds.

    Many thanks in advance!

The leaves won’t bother Annabelle and yes they will simply compost down. The only caveat is that it’s usually advised to clear away all the leaves to help prevent box blight, but if the box is healthy I personally wouldn’t worry.

Thank you! The OH is obsessed with the Annabelle's so didn't want to disturb them!
