I'm trying to work out who this Lizzie character is, I'm looking at it now and I think she is just English, sounds like it to me.

Just watching Beechgrove and was wondering why Lizzie Schofield causes irritation here. She doesn’t speak with accent. Her English is good.
But my ears are eventually better trained due to my job.

How odd! I've just watched Beechgrove and found myself gritting my teeth most of the way through. The Lizzie accent! Yes, drives me nuts, it's awful! I'd guess an Australian who has lived in Scotland a long time, or a New Zealander with those vowels. Certainly not English or Scots. It's tortured and tortuous! Plus in those silly tight trousers she looks like a parsnip. Apart from George and Brian and Callum I dislike all the presenters nowadays. Don't think I'll be watching it any more. Great shame, but it's gone too far off the rails for my liking.

You may well be right @simone_in_wiltshire .

I have found an article about her which includes an interview on a podcast.
How 'Gardens Of The Year' changed my life – with Liz Schofield

Fast forward to around -27 on the recording and anyone who's interested can have a listen and see what they think. There's no doubt whatsoever that she's a good gardener, it's just her accent. She'd probably say the same about mine !

      The blonde one, @pete .

She's lived in NE Scotland for a while, but no way is that an NE Scottish accent.

No its an English accent as far as I can tell, a bit like some of the others that are, or used to be on the programme.
I dont see what the difference is, I know its a Scottish programme.

Well you could have fooled me.
I've been taken for an Aussie in some places but she sounds English to me.

Kent, London and Essex gave a lot of vowel sounds to Ozzie English @pete which is why you think she sounds English.

To me - nothern English upbringing - her accents sounds tortured.

I was often mistaken for Aussie in the US, she is not broad Aussie in her speech.
I can usually spot them, as they go up at the end, if you know what I mean.

I can hear a bit of Aussie and a bit of Scots but she sounds fine to me - I cannot see what the problem is.

Only a problem if you have very finely tuned lugholes I suppose! Her accent just grates on my nerves. I'll not deny that she's a good gardener, but I'm afraid I'll be sparing myself listening to her in future!

I think we all have accents we dont really like listening to, I tend to find that bloke on ITV in the Mornings a real PIYA , I think it's some version of Geordie, cant remember his name but his way of talking is really awful to my ear.
Kevin Maguire, just looked him up.
