Good afternoon all. It rained very heavily here in the night and I was aware of it twice - without actually being 100% awake. Both my water butts are filled to overflowing which helps with watering in the green house. I nipped out to the GC first thing as I was after some compost and some new pelargoniums. I also wanted a begonia called Bountiful Pink which my GC had emailed to tell me about. Apparently it is a new introduction that is extremely floriferous and can be either indoor or outdoor. I could have gone mad in the GC as they had so many beautiful plants but I restricted myself as I have some on order.

The dark leaved plant to the right of the begonia is a pelargonium. I just liked the leaves which are so different.
I did quite a bit of work in the garden - clearing out loads of Japanese anemones and then I came in to watch Trooping The Colour and then the tennis. Quite happy with what I got done today though. I'll continue clearing the JA tomorrow - weather permitting.
Another lovely picture @Liriodendron. Thank you for sharing.

Loads of planting done today and some more quarrying. So many stones in parts of the new bed.
More perennials today and the last of the claret coloured sunflowers. Hours of fun. Just some ratibidia mexican Hat and some daffs I had to put in pots as the bed wasn't ready.

It's stayed cloudy and pleasant at 21C but no rain so everythig needed a good soaking. Similar tomorrow which suits me fine and then bright sun and 31C for the rest of the week from Monday so OH had better follow the watering rota!

I've never liked begonias @Ladybird4 - too plasticky - and I have no surviving pelargoniums. this year but I do love a good geranium - foliage interest, flowers and ground cover. Fab plants.

OH is on taxi duty to avoir parking problems so we're having a quiet evening in.

Have a pleasant evening everyone and a good sleep.

We've been having a bit of a tidy up and putting stuff away. It was hot again outside.

We looked at the security cameras in Norfolk this morning but they weren't working so OH rang the Internet provider who said not an Internet problem but no power. I rang our lovely NDNs who have a key. They went round and found the fuse box circuit breaker had tripped. There was a big storm in the night. Anyway, it's all working now, thank goodness. We might have come back to a defrosted freezer like we did here.

            Happy Sunday.jpg
Hello there everyone. I hope that you all enjoy your Sundays. @Obelix-Vendée, Monty Don isn't a lover of begonias either and I'm not keen on the little bedding type begonias myself but I do like the tuberous ones for hanging baskets and this new one is going to be a house plant. I have lots of hardy geraniums in my garden and agree with you as to their usefulness.
Glad that you checked your security cameras @Busy-Lizzie - that could have been a disaster and thank goodness for lovely neighbours.

Good morning @Ladybird4 and all to follow!
Just finished a leisurely Sunday breakfast. It's 9am here, and already 17C; we're expecting 26 this afternoon, so I've "broken out" the summer clothes for the last day of the choral festival. Last night's concert was a "come & sing", quite an experience with over a thousand participants. :)
We're beginning to get accustomed to walking back to the hotel in what appears to be broad daylight, but is in fact after 11pm... and sunrise this morning was some time after 3am, I think, though the blackout curtains are useful!

A much better looking morning today. I gave up thinking about drying the washing outside yesterday, have just hung it out.
It looks as though going to club might be possible today.

Lizzie the instructions on my tablets packet are to take one a day with food. I read the enclosed info. leaflet and scared myself witless with the possible side effects etc. I didn't surface until 8.00am this morning, very late for me.

I am thinking about doing an online SM shop, need quite a few basics and do not feel like facing the hoards. The SMs are always heaving at weekends due to it being change over day for holiday makers.

I took some green kitchen waste down to the compost heap, was distracted by weeding the path until I was rained indoors. I did give the tomatoes their support canes so another little job done.

A sort of day at home planned, although we have to go to the nearby garden centre to stock up on bird food, and get some petrol while passing the petrol station. Otherwise, it’s house and garden today.
Watched a real horror show on the cctv last night! We set up an extra camera to watch a hole in the ground, discovered when I pruned back the camellias. The cable wasn’t quite long enough, but we managed to get it to reach by draping it over a couple of brackets at the front of the house.
The recordings from the first night showed no activity at the hole in the ground. However, the other camera, which covers the spot I put the badger food out in, also has a good view of the two cables, at least three feet above ground level. It was a slug motorway! How did they get up there? And why? Where were they going? Really creepy watching this steady stream of slugs making their way along the cable in both directions. They somehow managed to pass each other, and no one fell off that I could see.
There were no slugs on the cable when I popped out at 10pm, but it will be interesting to see last nights recording.
Just finished breakfast, nowhere opens till 10.30 so I’d better do a couple of jobs before we go out. Better make a list so I don’t get distracted at the garden centre. Ha Ha!

                    Morning all,

A slug highway does sound creepy @Ergates, almost as bad as our int invasion. Glad to say that it didn't happen again last night. I buy the sunflower seeds in quantity (25 kgs) online which works out far cheaper than a GC and saves frequent trips to stock up - although that does mean I don't get to visit a GC quite so often.

@Goldenlily26 Your blood thinning pills must be a completely different prescription to mine. Interesting that yours say take with food which mine don't mention. I agree about the scariness of reading about the various side affects, I try not to think about them!

I'm looking forward to seeing my sister again later and hopefully, fingers crossed, my big brother as well. It will be his first long journey since his car accident last year so we're both hoping he'll manage it - and doesn't get lost!

                    Enjoy your Sunday folks.

                      Yuck, @Ergates, true horror indeed.
We watched 'A few good men' last night with the brilliant Jack Nicholson (well, not 'with' him!!)
                      Then I slept...
I wanted some flowers for the van deck and Aldi had pelargoniums and 'plasticky' begonias, so that's what we got. As long as they bring a bit of colour, I don't mind.
I could do with some more colour at the front of the house, too.
Made a puy lentil, sun dried tomato, feta and parsley salad last night to have with the bbq. Not made one for years. I forgot how much I love them!
The washer has just pinged. At least everything will dry quickly today.
                      Have a good day everyone!

Morning all. Washing machine just pinged here too! Hand towels today. I’ve had to intervene with Dad’s washing ‘skills’ as I was always taught that it’s a no-no to wash undies in with tea towels etc. I am a bit hygiene obsessed mind! I save up a piles of similars and wash like that.

It feels like hot Summertime sun today so I’m in the shade just pondering today’s jobs (which may be staying put with my gardening mag).

Have a lovely Sunday all - be that relaxing, Church-ing, outings or gardening.

                          Good morning all.

I agree with your Dad about not washing tea towels with undies @AuntyRach. I iron tea towels too, kills germs.

There was a big storm in the night and lots of rain. In some areas, like Bergerac, and nearer the coast, trees blew over. It's given the garden a good watering and the air is cooler and fresher, which is a relief.

Interesting about the Towel washing thing. First, what do you considered Tea Towels. I have kitchen towels, that hang in the kitchen, naturally. then there is hand towels, hang in the bathroom, then bath towels--the large full body size. Then there is Face towels, for bathroom use.
The set of kitchen towels I have are over 30 years old, thick and strong, just now showing some thinning in spots.
I also have some very gauze type, thinner I don't put them out much.

What bothers me at house parties is when the host puts out only one hand towel, and say there are 10 guests, after a while the one hand towel does not dry. Should have a stack of them, and a basket to land the used one. Just my opinion.

@redstar, tea towels are used to dry dishes after hand washing. They used to be made of linen (the best ones still are) but now mainly cotton. The are not 'looped' like ordinary towels, either.
                              Agree re the hand towels.

I have a big stack of kitchen towels, and tea towels, enough to put out a fresh set every day, then do a wash load of them at the end of the week.
Well, we went to the garden centre, but via the whole food shop next door! For some reason, I was feeling a bit fragile this morning, despite having had my usual cereal and fruit for breakfast. OH didn’t need much persuading when I suggested we stopped for a coffee. I had a slice of iced Bakewell tart with mine, and he had a toasted tea cake. All made on the premises with wholesome ingredients. We sat out in their garden under a sunshade, and listened to the birds as we ate.
We have stocked up on suet nibbles and sunflower seeds, and also bought a Niger seed feeder. We have been seeing goldfinches for over a week now and would dearly love to encourage them to visit more often. At our previous home, we would have ‘charms’ of twenty birds or more visiting daily, but they have rarely visited here. We do see them outside the village, on the hedgerows by the fields, so they are around.
We have just sawn up the remains of the branch that fell from one of the beech trees, so I’m having a well deserved rest in the shade, with a cold drink. Lots of birds twittering in the trees, and a big pale green dragonfly has just hovered past. Idyllic!
