That's very useful to know @Butterfly6. I'll have to keep an eye on VB when it rains. I like the very subtle colour it turns, a bit like lemon mousse  and a nice contrast with Lady of Shalott.

I think that's a good idea @CostasK. In a leaflet I got with a delivery of some bare root roses last year from Style Roses, the instruction not to use bark was quite strict .

This is the border I planted up a couple of weeks ago to add some colour in my front garden. It's making good progress, apart from the Dahlias losing a few flowers :).

Seeing your lovely heucheras there, @Plantminded, reminds me to ask whether you have any trouble with grey mildew on the leaves? I've had one type of heuchera (Helen Dillon) for 25 yrs with no bother at all. Last yr, I got a different unnamed one from Homebase. It is not doing well. I have taken off the worst affected leaves. Should I cut it back to the ground and let it send up fresh ones? If it's not going to thrive, I can cope with that, but I don't want to lose my Helen Dillon due to disease-jumping. I'm quite glad Homebase has gone really. Stops me impulse buying their rubbish (yet expensive :th scifD36:) plants.

We picked the next lot of morello cherries.
            IMG_20250616_101449.jpg
Don't know why the "white" is there as they all were very red. Also they look like currants but be assured they are morello cherries. I think the camera focused on the table!

Thankfully the birds don't like them as they have taken all the fruit from the other 2 cherry trees. Then spent a long time removing the pips and then into a cool oven before adding syrup for bottling.
Picked some more loganberries and some spring onions.

@Logan we used to have not pink but a white currant bush. It lasted for some years and then gone.

I started on my bindweed patrol and filled a 32 litre bucket in an hour before giving up because of the heat. Sitting in the cool now and when I've cooled down some more I shall have a choc ice.

I tried digging out some weeds but the ground is too solid to be able to get the fork into it.

I haven’t had any problem with mildew @ViewAhead. I’ve got quite a few of them in both front and back gardens. I think I would remove all the leaves from yours, dig it up and put it in a pot for some intensive care :). Keep it away from your Helen Dillon. I remember seeing it in one of your photos and thought it had the best flowers I have ever seen on a Heuchera. You definitely don’t want it contaminated :thud:.

Good plan! :) Will do. :blue thumb:

They aren't planted together, so hopefully HD will be safe. The flowers were particularly lovely this yr.

I believe black spot is an airborne disease/fungus so no hope of eliminating it altogether.
Most of my roses get it sooner or later so I just ignore it.

Your Morello cherries look good @On the Levels. Birds don't usually eat mine but they have eaten them this year.

I weeded the vegetable garden yesterday and OH deadheaded the roses.

                              Very neat :blue thumb:

I've already done an hour on my bindweed patrol in an area that is in full sun, before it gets too hot. I'm certain the weeds know when we go away and grow twice as fast as normal!

I shall trim the edges of the lawns I cut yesterday before it gets too hot. Probably won't get much else done as I'm out all afternoon.
