                      They are not easy and need special compost to be honest.

                        Well for compost I just take a standard peat based one and mix with a large amount of grit (about equal amount). That reduces the already fairly low nutrient level, and increases the drainage. Also I find they have to have fairly generous pots. Other things cope with being pot bound, but proteacae seems to resent it - maybe it inhibits the proteoid rootlets?

                          Yeah, what I mean is a bag of normal stuff wont do, most of it contains lime, I find they do ok potbound if you water like crazy in hot weather, mine is getting twice a day now, but really needs potting on, its got really lop sided.

                                Lavender filling in as First flush of roses is drawing to an end.
                                Desdemona, Arthur Bell finished,
                                Vanessa Bell, Lichfield Angel, Roald Dahl, Adelaide d’Orleans probably another week or so of blooms.
