Weeding, watering in the greenhouse and outside, cutting grass to the delight of the supervising robin.
So far today opened greenhouse. This afternoon I know what I ought to do, but will probably do anything but.

@Goldenlily26 ,@Escarpment, generally speaking it's not good to see a hedgehog out during daylight hours, although at this time of year you might see them out say from around 8pm as it doesn't get really dark until gone 10pm at the moment.

As you say, if the hedgehog is moving "purposefully" it may well be a female nest building or even looking into moving a nest and hoglets if she's been disturbed for some reason.

If the hedgehog is sluggish or lying on the ground it needs help (contact a local rescue or visit the British Hedgehog Preservation Society website for advice
      The British Hedgehog Preservation Society).

I posted this on the hedgehog thread, my local rescue says that these very high temperatures have caused them to appear during the day out of desperation.

"With temperatures high in the coming days please ensure there is water in the garden for wildlife, hedgehogs are struggling and my local rescue has been getting reports all day of hedgehogs trying to stay cool and hydrated.

They’re coming out day and night at the moment looking for food and water. So please keep bowls topped up and if you have a pond in the garden also keep levels topped up as hedgehogs can fall in when trying to drink from a pond."

If anyone is in any doubt, it's always best to get advice, just to be on the safe side .

Just deadheaded the roses in the back garden before lunch as it was cooler than expected, thank goodness. We even had at least two minutes of rain!
Now looks like front garden rose deadheading will have to be postponed as it faces almost due south.

Well that took some catching up on this thread :phew: .

Can't say to much about clematis but I'd give them a least a year to establish I've had them die but return after buying another one , plant group 2 deeper for clematis wilt . Group 3 grow like weeds here especially this year I've had to wrestle with Betty Corning to get into the GH .

The black spot from bark mulch / wood chip should be fine unless roses were used , black spot is species specific it shouldn't pass from a sycamore to rose for example they are totally different pathogens.

I have Lady of Shallot its a beautiful rose its the star of the rear garden at the moment its glowing :) . I never spray for black spot some roses just seem more susceptible than others I couldn't stop Golden celebration from getting so put up with it , Golden C got evicted this year to the garage site got fed up with black spot :heehee:.

Reseeded the lawn this week finally 100% rye grass this time , I've been using the sprinkler naughty me :nonofinger: , I can see bit of a green haze today :hapfeet: the rain has returned today it horribly humid after a shower. That why I am inside waiting for the rain to stop I am emptying the pots for summer plants . back out soon but I'll get some photos of Lady of shalotss ;) first.

A second and final session scarifying my lawn. It wasn't in great condition before but looks a complete mess now and almost bald. Thank goodness for fertiliser.

I got on quite well yesterday with various things, as it was mainly cloudy, rather than that horrible heat which drove me inside the previous day. Nothing like the temps in the south, but still way too hot for me. Did plenty of deadheading and moved a few plants etc, plus sorted my front gate properly and had a chat with my neighbour across the way, as he's been doing some renovations outside too, and I helped him a little bit with that too. He's got some slabs and edging stones for me that he needs rid of, which will be handy for doing a base for the growhouse later this year. He's getting some tomatoes as a barter/reward. :)
The bullfinches were in to snaffle the berries on the Amelanchier. Very entertaining, and got some good pix, so will put them on the appropriate thread.

Nothing happening today unless the rain stops for long enough. It's very thundery.

@fairygirl . I dont think anyone can beat bullfinches in the Amelanchier but this is what the garden cam covering our conservatory picked up at 6:05 this morning. I think he/she was viewing its reflection in the window. Open Conservato_2025-06-22T05_55_26.jpeg

@Robert Bowen - when I re-sited and enlarged my pond some years ago, it wasn't even properly done but a local heron was on the neighbour's garage roof having a gander. They're not daft! I have a pic somewhere, but I'd need to load the doofer that they're all on. They're quite common round here due to all the burns and tributaries that eventually feed into the Clyde many miles away.
Maybe yours was looking and thinking- 'who's that handsome chap/bonny lass?' ;)
It's funny how much actually happens when we aren't looking

@fairygirl Very true ! What the photo doesnt pick up just out of shot to the right of the picture is our fishpond which would provide a hearty breakfast for these flying fortresses. I have a net over the pond which is at least 6” above the water surface which has deterred these fantastic birds but i agree over their intelligence if i drop my guard it will become a fishless pond.
