Yes mine is just over 3ft - about 40" (I've just gone out and measured!). Are your hundreds from self seeding?

    Not in my garden...
But visited Farmyard Nurseries again today, and their stock areas were looking great

Most of the staff were away at Hampton Court, and these were sarracenias that didn't go with them - the ones that went must have been amazing!

Yes, mainly they are plus a little help from us dividing the originals. Beth Chatto sold us our first two plants in 1972 and she told us they were the first she was selling and wouldn't have more for sale until the next year.

Most of ours have come from self seeding and we used to sell them by digging up some of the young ones. Although they like sunny weather and drier conditions they are not keen on no rain for months.

      I'll measure some of them.

Of course, the wild yellow ones easily grow to 10ft high. We keep a few of them around that area to keep the Mullein moth from the chaixii as they much prefer the wild ones.

Random photos mainly taken early morning because the bright sun doesn't do much for my camera - still haven't bothered to get a different camera

      V. chaixii and a fern self seeded in the greenhouse. The chaixii is about 120ft from where the plants are growing :rolleyespink:

Poppies growing wild everywhere. It's hard work and too difficult to keep the garden tidy.

Part of our front verge. These poppies are immigrants from the field opposite, each flower only lasts from sunrise till about noon but does look good in the mornings.

These ferns were self seeded near our front door many years ago. Anything self seeded that isn't in the way is allowed to stay.

The Veronicastrum is only just starting to show the flowers growing. When they are open the bees will mob them.

                Thanks :)

I could say it is all carefully designed to look wild but I would be lying. :noidea:

I watered the garden this morning (the roots of the plants) to make sure that the plants that will have flowers soon in July and August don't die on the way to the late summer display. I saw that a Helenium Moerheim Beauty bought last year has got 2 flowers. It didn't look like it had survived, and I was surprised how well it developed in the recent 4 weeks.

                  20250629ourgarden_01.jpg

The Perovskia also gets now flowers.

                  20250629ourgarden_02.jpg

I had the intention to cut the main flower head of the Delphinium. The flowers to the side are still fine but the main stem got a slightly angle due to wind and heavy main flower.
Thanks goodness, I always look down where I walk and this one needed a trained gardener's eye to be seen amongst the landscape bark.

                  20250628ourgarden_02.jpg

I had to wait for 1 hour before he woke up.

Meanwhile, I enjoyed birds and other butterflies.

Maybe they're growing in more fertile soil? Mine is in the part of my garden rated "difficult"!

Give it another year. Your one is just one year old. It needs around 2 years to establish.

I'm really hoping it's going to seed itself around like shiney's. I've spotted another surprise this morning, what looks like wild carrot. I'll know for sure when it flowers. That's something I was thinking of buying seed for, so it will be amazing if it's just turned up.

@Escarpment I've just been down to measure our chaixii and the tallest is 5'8" but the other large ones are mostly between 5'3" - 5'6". With loads that are smaller,
