Plenty of moths are out in the daytime @luciusmaximus, but you're maybe just not seeing them too.
Not sure what I'll do today. Spent a bit of time sorting the smaller bird cage - would have been quicker starting from scratch! Walk in a couple of minutes while it's smirry/damp and cloudy, then see what's what. I've got a few minor things to pot up or pot on, but I'll probably have to be indoors for a good while as it'll get too hot for me. Might get some more done in the front garden before the sun gets round there, including mixing the other compost bin as I didn't get that done. I have a couple of Jap. anems that can be planted, and some ground cover plants too.

I woke up earlier today and I have been watering the plants and doing some deadheading before work, considering it's going to get quite hot later (23 C).

I have also been checking the roses for blackspot and I was glad to see that even the two Lady of Shalott roses that suffered earlier in the summer are doing much better.

I think I know what the problem was. I realised that different roses have somewhat different preferences regarding watering, even when you factor in the size of the plant. I had already been giving all of them more water than the recommendation on the DA website, especially the larger ones, but it doesn't seem that it was enough. Lady of Shalott is one thirsty gal. If I give the same amount of water to a different rose, even if I fertilise at the same time, the leaves start to get lighter in colour, suggesting it's too much for them. But she loves it and is much healthier with the extra moisture.

Gosh, @CostasK, I look on 23C as being quite cool in summer! 27C forecast in South Norfolk today, where I am at the moment and 30C in Dordogne where my home is.

I'm having a restful day today, might snip off some deadheads. Tomorrow I won't be gardening as we are going to the Norfolk Garden Show.

Forecast is for 27 degrees that will feel like 32 degrees, according to my app, so only watering on the agenda. I will do a little each hr, as the sun moves down the garden. :blue thumb:

Picked the last of the broad beans, enough for a meal for 2 and the rest in the freezer. The plants will then be cut back to leave the nodules in the ground and "when" we have any rain we will sow some more spinach and white moolis for the winter.

@On the Levels, I was told that if you leave a foot or so on the broad beans, they might resprout and give you a second crop if you're lucky.

Nothing much this week as too warm, but I do potter about early morning and late evening - pulling a few weeds and deadheading plus watering of course! I think my lettuces are going to bolt so I might pick the good leaves and compost the rest. I’ll sow some more as should germinate quickly.

Very hot here so just crisis watering containers early in the morning and a good soak all around just now.

The neighbour's dog is being trained not to bark when he is out in their garden. The poor thing is doing his very best, I can hear him pressing his lips together and muttering under his breath "must.NOT.bark.must.NOT.bark" when I'm doing interesting things right on the other side of the fence.

Shamefully, the spray from my watering hose occasionally misdirects to the fence sprinkling the poor heroic dog in the face :heehee: I know I'm a bad person but I think the dog also finds it a bit funny. :heehee:

I can nearly get into the greenhouse if I place my feet carfully  Hence, one cucumber container had to move out to the patio. I put the pot (one of those Morrison's ex-flower buckets 5 for 99p, nice and big) in a bucket to help with watering. The majority of cucu plants are in the makeshift raised beds so will just have to find their way around.

I'm now harvesting a Diva or a Restina for every meal I have. And either Gardener's delight or Maskotka, I'm not quite sure- but both are now starting to ripen in earnest. :)
