Mainly herbaceous geraniums, Mediterranean plants, Lavenders, things like shrubby salvias. Cosmos which are sown direct now. Plus I have succulents and Aeoniums in pots which can go for weeks without water. My pots just have pelagoniums and begonias in which are very low maintenance now.

How would that work? There's not a ban on selling them. Or is that the joke?

I'm in the Wessex water area; last time they had a hose pipe ban was in 1976, and they are currently saying that we're not that bad yet and they don't envisage having one. 75% of our water supply is groundwater, so at least we started the year well charged up after that very wet winter.

I am very careful using water, but if I need to use the hosepipe I will.

One of our bamboos has given up. The other one, near it, is OK. We planted them over 40 years ago.

I've cut it down and started working around the stump and tried to saw the stump into smaller pieces. Still couldn't budge it much so a friend will be bringing a crowbar when he is passing. :noidea: He will also do the hard work on it. :phew:

Catananche manages well without watering once established. However, if you grow it from seed, you won't see the flowers for a couple of years. Once mature it spreads.
Also @LG_ have me some tall creamy white jobs that I can never remember the name of. They do Ok,too

                  Good luck with that !
Once had cause to 'remove' an established bamboo plantation from a wood where it had been as a screen to natural sunbathing.
Despite glysophate and mechanical means being ineffective, we decided to use it as the base for several tremendous fires as thinnings were removed. Burning for three days.
This did not destroy the roots.

Hosepipe ban announced for Kent and Sussex.

I appreciate it's been dry, but it feels like we have one almost every year now. If they'd invested more in our water infrastructure rather than lining their own pockets maybe it wouldn't be always so inevitable.

I'm not sure when we last had one in Kent?
As I understand it its not actually a shortage of water but a shortage of treating it.
I often think why are we pouring gallons of chlorine treated water on our gardens but I suppose there is no sensible other option apart from the small amount we can save ourselves.

Massive house building is a big part of the problem in my opinion.

It does tend to snowball as soon as one applies a ban.
