Watered greenhouse and terrace pots first thing this morning and since then have hidden indoors. Apart from refilling feeders as the birds were looking miffed.

Not a lot because i went to see my friends, but watered the polyanthus, some of them won't make it around the path at the front.

Well after working this morning and a trip to the GC I've been a busy bee in the garden .

Tidied up the hot border of allium stems weeds and a failing monarda which isn't surprising fickle plants. I got my favourite annual rudbeckia planted Indian summer with some amaranthus - Dahlia david howard and some salvia roman red . Hopefully the snails don't demolish them they've already seen my sunflowers off in that border. tidied back lily henryi before it takes the postman out .

Removed foxgloves and stuck some cleome and cosmos in the back garden along with yet more weeding .

Planted rose Kew rambler which took a bit more effort , it had a rose there so this one been planted in a card board box + mycorrhizal fungi to help establishment.

Planted up a few more pots and watered the lot .

Trimmed the beech hedge yesterday and cut some wood up for the compost heap .

It was cooler here yesterday than on Thurs and Fri. Only about 28 degrees. Got a bit of weeding done as the shade moved down the garden. The soil is so dry, they come out easily with nothing needing to be washed off the roots before they can go in the wheelie bin. :blue thumb: Might do some more today, if my back allows.

I went out just after 7 a.m. only intending to pick a courgette I'd been watching and some sweet peas. Ended up doing about an hour's work - processed the stuff I'd cut down earlier in the week (mostly Goji berry) for the green bin, cut back a few more brambles and some ivy, cut back the sprawling Iberis which has finished flowering now, removed a few foxglove flower heads, and did some dead heading. Then when bringing all the arisings around the side of the house I saw how big the Virginia creeper was getting (it is rooted next door) and pulled out as much as I could get to.

Hideously hot here yesterday, so I chucked it about half 11 [even though I was in a shadier part] and spent the rest of the day indoors trying to stay cool. It reached 30 degrees here briefly.
Today, I've already been out for my walk - [slightly cooler at 7 am, fortunately] then I've been up a ladder sorting the guttering on the extension. It was damaged during a storm a few years ago, because a ridge tile came off and hit it. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the end back in properly. It's now sorted and fixed in with sealant. Fingers crossed.
I'll just do a few more bits and pieces sitting under the pergola - strawberry runners to peg down from the existing plants [which I'll lift] and then see what I can put in the wall trough they've been in. Deadheading and maybe not much else. I have a new bolt to put on the front gate, so I'll do that before the sun gets round there. If I have the energy, I might put a coupl eof plants in that area too.

Feeling wracked with guilt for taking out a very healthy, sizeable toadflax as I need the spot for a fern, which I have revived from the brink of death and really needs to be in the ground rather than its current pot. Have deadheaded the hostas and cut off a few of the biggest, fading leaves to allow some smaller ones coming through light and space. Still not a single bit of nibble-damage this yr! :yay:

Watered again and cut back a load of verbascum spires and foliage to give other plants a chance , very surprised that this revealed a very good 4’ tomato plant had developed independent of any input from me using a big salvia amistad for support. I will see what happens.

Won't be able to do much of anything for at least 6 weeks. I've broken my wrist last night. Woke up at 12.30 went to the bathroom when i got back into the bedroom instead of turning right to my side of the bed i carried on forward and tripped on the rug. Hubby took me to A&E at about 1.30 and stayed there until 7am. At 5am hubby went home to take the boys to toilet and came back, I've got it in plaster but got to go to the fracture clinic tomorrow at 10am.
