I'm not a hundred percent sure but you mostly only fill a swimming pool once, top up maybe from time to time.

I've taken a couple of pleasure flights in a small plane over my area and was surprised how many houses off the beaten track had large lawns, swimming pools and tennis courts.
You just don't know how the other half live. ;)

Surely it's one waste product that we could dump in the sea.

No, that's the big problem - discharging brine would affect the salinity in that area and kill sea life. Sea life is adapted to very specific levels of salt.

From what I understand, from a customer who used to service pools, they only needed refilling about every five years unless there's a problem with them. When drained most pool drains are connected to the mains drainage system so it does go back into the system. In hot weather they do lose a small percentage by evaporation and need a bit of topping up. The filter system recirculates the water so there is no loss when it is being filtered.

I was thinking more like mid ocean, but I suppose that would involve getting it there at great expense.
              Yeah see your point.

I wonder if the hosepipe applies to Greg Wallace?

Thanks for enlightening us never-have-had-or-will-have swimming pool owners.

Neighbours have a hot tub, I don think it's been refilled for the three years they have had it.
Bit like using 3 yrs old bath water.

Not quite. Hot tubs have filters which are, or should be, cleaned regularly and changed occasionally. So, they also don't use much water.

I also would not have a swimming pool or hot tub. :noidea:

Indeed it is but would be an ideal use of the amount of 'renewable' energy which is unused and for which we have to pay generators {33% of your bill}. It could be used 'off peak' rather than exporting it to Europe at below cost price. Also some say it would be possible to have laid a 'supermain' in HS2 project, which links major population centres, at marginal cost.
                    Salt has many uses.

Yes, but salt is dirt cheap anyway - I don't think it would cost effective to process the waste and use it. And energy is not consistently unused - most of the time we are generating less than we use and importing energy. So the plant would have to run intermittently, which is usually not possible in big industrial processes.
