    Good morning all.

Glad your travelling went well, @Busy-Lizzie , & hope you have a great weekend.

I reckon that some drivers are clueless about flooded roads, @Ladybird4 , or else have no regard for other drivers or pedestrians. Just unacceptable.

The wind dropped before midnight so I slept OK. Not sure what I'll be doing today, apart from haunting the ferry terminal to see if I can get to the island tomorrow. The weather's not going to be as extreme as yesterday, but the wind is predicted to pick up again later.

    Have a great day!

Very noisy outside during the night, but didn’t really wake me up properly. The lawn is covered in leaves and everything is very wet. It was strange popping outside around 9pm last night as it was quite warm and humid. A bit of a change from the colder night temperatures earlier in the week.
No plans for today, apart from doing some laundry. Must have twisted my wrist in the night again, I’ve had to put the crepe bandage back on. That’ll slow me down.

@Ergates, I think that a poorly wrist is a cracking excuse to put any HW on hold! Unfortunately, I cannot use that excuse myself so I am being forced into doing 'stuff' indoors today. It will be kept to the bare minimum, just in case my body which isn't used to that sort of activity, decides to go on strike!

Morning all. Doesn't seem to be as bad as forecast, but of course, it can all go downhill.
          Jolly chilly, though.
Hope you manage to catch a ferry soon @Liriodendron
Apart from a flu jab later this morning, I will have no excuse to avoid HW, either!
ETA I had to google the hostel and it does look rather spartan

I think I am going mad. Went out yesterday and not a sign of road signs anywhere. My daughter called in later and wanted to know what was I blathering on about. Were they taken away in advance of the storm which is now raging?
Our council always start roadworks this time of year, to avoid the summer holiday makers and Christmas.
I am going for my Covid and Flu jabs this morning.
I hope everyone stranded by the storm is OK and not too miserable at having their plans interrupted. I hope you all stay safe. We are on the edge of the worst. Very windy and some rain. Roving wheelie bins can be a hazard, along with lots of other items like bins, lids etc. Take care. Surface water is also a hazard, I am never sure how deep it might be.
I am sorry for anyone with Covid, I 'think' I had it before the pandemic was officially recognized. I was ill for 6 weeks, nothing compared to a lot of other people. I didn't go to the Dr. I sat it out, feeling like death. I have been left with a loss of taste, I can taste sweet, sour and salty, more subtle flavours like spices etc. is like eating sawdust
When at Heligan I treated myself to a piece of Cheddar, some home made black sausage, and a thick double lamb loin chop, we used to call them butterfly chops. I knew I shouldn't go in the deli section, but I did! Just to have a look, of course. The chop was delicious with roast veg., tender shoot broccoli and mint sauce.
I had a shock this morning. I went into my en-suite, reached for a new tube of toothpaste on top of the low level water cistern and the toothpaste disappeared between the back of the cistern and the wall! The cistern is hanging on to the wall brackets by the skin of its teeth.
Another 'little' job to get sorted.
There is no chance of doing anything outside today, squalls keep going through, lashing the trees and anything else that is moveable.
Stay safe everyone, only a day or so to go before it has blown through completely.
            .

The sun keeps popping out, but interspersed with sudden blasts of strong winds. Not looked out yet to see if there are any obvious branches down. OH is watching F1 practice, so that is an excuse for me to also sit around not doing anything very constructive!
Good luck sorting the cistern out, @Goldenlily26. I was cleaning the guest bathroom, and noticed that the loo seat has come a bit loose on one side. I’ll have to dig out the instruction leaflet and the Allen key, and see if I can tighten it up again. None of the recent guests mentioned it, - probably being too polite! - I hope it hasn’t been like that for too long, it’s very unnerving to sit on an unstable seat!

Morning all, everything ok here thank goodness. Still got some strong gusts though but can't see anything untoward in the garden apart from two pelargoniums in plastic pots blown off a metal stand - I'd forgotten about those. We kept the bedroom window shut as the tall trees right outside can be quite noisy in windy conditions.

My son and DIL were flying from Heathrow to Istanbul this morning, do hope their flight got off ok with no long delays. Don't envy the flights in and out of Bristol today, they often get diverted when the weather's bad. I've done a bumpy landing there - not something I ever want to repeat!

OH has just left to fetch our morning paper, I opted to stay behind in case I got blown off my feet. Happened to me once in the same kind of conditions but fortunately I managed to grab hold of the lamp post and cling on for dear life.

Pleased to hear Penny and Liriodendron are ok. Take care Goldenlily26 when you go out for your jabs.

I was woken in the small hours feeling hot and sweaty and pinned by two felines. It was very warm last night so no idea whey the needed to snuggle so close. Anyway, was then kept awake by high winds but not a lot of rain. Surfaced late so another quiet, pottering morning but will go out after lunch and tackle rose planting and hope a little bit of moisture has made the soil easier to work.

As long as there is good coffee available, or hot chocolate if it's cold, I can spend ages watching the waves @Liriodendron so I hope you have a good view of the sea while you wait for your ferry and some goos reading matter too.

                  Stay safe everyone.

I think the whole of Mold was queuing for jabs this morning - also got the option of a covid jab, which I took. The car park was manic and there was a bloke in a new BMW who thought he had right of way to barge into it before me, with horns blaring. He didn't have right of way, so he had to accept defeat on that one!
In fact, there was quite a lot of horn blaring in general!
We've treated ourselves to Ginster's Cornish pasties for lunch. (or should that be pastys? A Cornish friend always spells it that way)

@Penny_Forthem. We like Ginster's Cornish pasties as well, in fact you've given me an idea for next Monday's dinner!

Glad you've got your jabs done, ours aren't till November. It's always a bunfight for car parking spaces when they're busy, I didn't realize there's a right of way - not that anybody takes any notice of those in general, especially the going uphill one.

Not done much today, bar a quick tour of the garden this morning but hastily beat a quick retreat because nearby tall trees and strong gusts freaked me out. I did clean both bathrooms this afternoon after I'd prised myself out of my recliner.

Hope you get all your roses planted soon @Obelix-Vendée.

                        Good evening to you all!

Windy today but the mercury reached 27°C this afternoon!! Tomorrow it will be 21°C.

Glad that you have arrived on the first part of your very long journey. @Busy-Lizzie

Glad to know that most of you are sheltering from the storm. Stay safe.

I watched Eva Longoria in Spain and there was a chef near Cadiz called Angel Léon who made crispy socca. Would anyone have the recipe for these please? I have searched the net and found a crispy sort of pancake which is baked in the oven. If anyone can help, I would like to try it.

                        Have a pleasant evening.

Managed to get 8 planted @lizzie27, but only cos I asked OH to help by digging the holes. 2 barrowloads of small stones and bits of roof tile and another of big stones plus a lump of concrete. 7 roses left to plant and then I can do the alliums and daffs and perennials and mulch it all.

It's been very mild, tho windy, so was quite pleasant out there. After we finished, I went to put the lids back on the seed trays in the polytunnel and to give the bacon rinds to the chooks. One missing till I found her under the netting protecting the cavolo nero and fossicking in the soil.

Set to be cooler tomorrow as the wind moves round to the north but sunny. We are out to lunch with some Brits we met thru the local Anglo-French club we joined when we first moved here. We are no longer members as their activities are not our thing.

We like Cornish pasties too @Penny_Forthem but none on sale here of course so I made them for the first time last December. Definitely a winter warmer for us.

                          Have a cosy evening everyone.

Being trapped inside by the weather forced me to be domestic for a little while and then I felt myself drawn back to plant cruising on t'internet. I was prompted by something I saw on GW last night to try sowing some Californian poppy seeds. I've never grown them before but I've always liked them and it seems they tolerate being ignored! I sent off for some seeds and I couldn't resist some alliums called Rosy Beauty. Hoping the weather will be kinder tomorrow or I'll only buy more plants!
I am signing out for this evening. There is nothing on TV I wish to watch so I will be doing some more reading.

@Ladybird4 I sowed CP Mikado this spring and had some lovely plants with fiery orange-red flowers. I'm now keeping an eye on them for seeds to save. Definitely worth trying.
