I am livid with Tesco. I ordered an expensive joint of beef (I normally buy from the farm shop, but because I wasn't feeling too great, I ordered a Tesco finest).
It arrived on Friday, in a red poly bag, as does all meat. The drivers are in a rush, so no time to check any use by dates and nowhere on the email receipt did it give any indication of any short shelf life products.
Yet, I took it out of the fridge earlier to cook it tonight and I saw the 'use by' date; 4 October. Yesterday.
You get why I am livid...
    They are refunding me, thankfully.
It was the most expensive joint I've ever bought.
    Farm shop in future.

Good afternoon all. It has continued being stormy here throughout today yet strangely enough, the trees are hanging on tightly to their leaves. I expected to see naked sticks when it got light but no.
@Goldenlily26, having made a good decision yourself regarding the beta blockers, it does beg the question as to why it wasn't picked up by the medics themselves. At least you will be able to share this information with your cardiac nurse.
@Penny_Forthem, that is such good news about Gin. Have you been practising your whistling? Sorry to read you still have not been feeling good @AuntyRach - wishing you a better day tomorrow.
Whilst chatting on the phone to my brother this afternoon. I was suddenly aware of a largish mouse (definitely not a rat) running around the living room. Cricket didn't seem to be very interested in it at all. It did look a bit dishevelled so maybe he had roughed it up and it bit him. Anyway, I did manage to catch and release it before the next squall. I am hoping that tomorrow will be a calmer day - still got lots to do in the garden. I am hoping my seeds arrive tomorrow as I got an email to say that they had been despatched.

@Penny_Forthem that is an absolutely disgusting story about the beef joint. I have been shopping in Tesco's when the packers have been at work and I have been quite shocked at the cavalier attitude some of those packers exhibit - tossing packages haphazardly into their special trolleys.

I hope you still cooked it @Penny_Forthem ! One day over is not a problem but does deserve a refund.

@Ladybird4 I used to see staff filling Click and Collect boxes in the Belgian supermarket but they all seemed to be very careful as it happened in opening hours in front of customers. Never see it here but then C&C customers collect from a different building so I suspect they have separate deliveries and sorters. No home deliveries here.

Never been tempted by it myself as I like to pick and choose, check dates, change my mind if what I wanted isn't looking good or something else turns up such as French leg of lamb on offer on Monday when I popped in for batteries and went looking for smoked, undyed haddock which they didn't have. Cullen Skink will have to wait.

Loads left to do in our garden/plot but no rain expected for the next 10 days so planting magnolias and other trees will have to wait but maybe some weeding and planting of small stuff. The wind has died down and all leaves appear still to be attached so maybe we'll get some good colour over the next few weeks.

I’m very impressed by your productivity, @Obelix-Vendée, all that before lunch! I think the most I managed was to get up!
Hope @Liriodendron is ok, and not still waiting for a ferry. The weather has been fairly wild down here, but nothing like what I’ve seen on the news.
Very annoying re the beef, @Penny_Forthem. Even through lockdown, I had deliveries of what I’d call dry goods, but queued at Waitrose in my mask to choose my own meat and dairy products. It would be good to be able to trust the supermarket to do their best, as sometimes shopping just can’t be done in person, but so frustrating when they fall short.

I agree with @Obelix-Vendée and I would have cooked it @Penny_Forthem and asked for a refund. I also prefer to go to the supermarket to choose what I want. They don't deliver either where I am in France. It's click and collect.

We went for another walk this afternoon. It rained a tiny bit.

Off to look at Troyes tomorrow. We'll spend the night in a hotel.

                    Happy Monday.jpg
Good morning all. It was nice to get a decent sleep last night and this morning is rainy but the high winds have moved away. I like your style @Penny_Forthem. I suppose it could be possible tha the original packer of your order could be identified and hopefully a cautionary word could be had. But hey, I'm just kidding myself there. The powers that be will probably just give you your well deserved refund and send out a missive to all store managers advising care.
I got downstairs this morning to spot another mouse running round the living room - smaller than the one I rescued yesterday - so the humane traps are in place and then, in the kitchen was a wiggly worm, which I rescued and put outside. Gosh I do live an exciting life!
I hope that everyone with aches and pains is much improved today and that whatever super plans are on the cards for you, they all fall into place.

Hello all! Thank you for all the good wishes! The ferry was in doubt until the last minute, but apart from one short spell, the crossing was OK. My main worry was that there was no power anywhere on Lismore, with a prediction that it could be Tuesday before it was restored, so I turned off the phone to conserve the battery. But it was a relief when the electricity came back on unexpectedly, around 10pm last night. So I can stop using the camping stove, and playing myself at Scrabble by candlelight! And I can charge my phone, which is a relief. Now let's see if this will send...

I'm still here! The ceps were good.

We will be leaving my son's and going to visit Troyes, night in a hotel, then driving to a ferry to the UK tomorrow.

                            Have a good day everyone.

I was interested in reading about Gin's reaction to you sneezing/coughing. I am no expert, but I know dogs read us like a book so wondered if your intake of breath, hand up to your face, whatever, is, to him, a signal he is going to be shouted at or hit? I spent a lot of time trying to work out what I did to signal to Rob I was going out without him. I never worked it out, He knew every time. If he managed to slip outside I could never catch him or persuade him back inside.
Although Rob had never been whistle trained, it only took me about a week to train him to come to a whistle. I started by making a game of it indoors. I would go into another room, hide, blow the whistle, then when he found me, a treat. His tummy ruled his life so he quickly cottoned on, a Godsend as his outdoor recall, selective deafness, was an issue when he first came to me. I even used to hide behind a tree when walking him, to make him search for me before he was given a treat. Making it a fun game.

I'm pleased that you've arrived safely @Liriodendron and that you have power. Enjoy you stay in the cottage with the delightful view.
Safe journey @Busy-Lizzie; we stayed in Troyes on one of our journeys through France.
I think you're spot on there @Goldenlily26. When you consider he had his first home, was put into foster care, rehomed into a busy childminder environment, put into foster care again, thence to us, it's not surprising he has issues.
