Is that Mahonia a bit early @Plantminded ? I used to find my Mahonia (Charity I think) didn't flower until end of year.

I like the Small Pine, Mungo @Plantminded.
I could kick myself a long time ago I grew Bristlecone pine from seed, it was very slow and I only kept one plant, and then one very wet autumn I didn't spot that the pot was flooded as the roots had plugged the drainage holes, it was about 20yrs old and about 2ft high by then.
        Yours looks very similar.

Mine is either Charity or Winter Sun, and it is at the same stage of flowering. Last year it was already going over at the beginning of December when I took this picture:

Thanks @pete. That's a real shame about your pine after all those years. At 2ft high yours would have been a great feature, and valuable too! I'll keep an eye on mine, I know drainage is important for them, thanks for the tip.

I did think that too @CarolineL but it's the first year I've had it so it must like the tropical conditions here . I have a small one called Meteor which is already on its second round of flowering but it's a late summer flowerer.

                    My thoughts were:

                    1. MY GOODNESS.
                    2. No, no, I will not gush over @Plantminded 's garden AGAIN!
                    3. @CarolineL has already started the conversation, I can't stop myself

I've been away so haven't really looked at much in the garden apart from having to deal with very overgrown lawns, a giant bonfire and the greenhouse falling down. I hope to find time today to take a few photos but here are a few that I snapped quickly a few days ago.

This area is now looking a bit tatty and bare as two large trees died and have been removed.
                          upload_2025-10-18_8-27-33.jpeg

That area is behind here so we have lost the background height
                          upload_2025-10-18_8-30-24.jpeg

This is self seeded between the fence and a paved storage area. Things do get away from us as there is always too much to do.
                          upload_2025-10-18_8-31-34.jpeg

With our greenhouse starting to fall down (@CanadianLori I shall get around to starting a thread on it :)) we shall try and remove these self seeded ferns carefully :fingers crossed:
