I bought this copper disc the other day which is claimed to reduce algal growth in a bird bath. I only put it in yesterday so can't vouch for its claims. Has anyone else used one of these? I'm slightly nervous that it might put birds off but have checked that it's not harmful to them. It cost less than £5 so not a major investment . Cleaning the bath of leaves and detritus will still be needed but there should be less green algae. We'll see :noidea:. (I don't like the positioning of the comma in "Welcome Friends".)

That's interesting @Plantminded , will wait to hear what you think of it after a few weeks. I have silver discs in all the water butts, didn't want to put one in the birdbath in case it was pinched by a magpie!

The bath normally goes green after a few days of cleaning it @Bluejayway so I'll report back next week :).

@Plantminded I use a solar water pump in mine. It doesn't stop it needing a rinse out every 10 days or so but it definitely doesn't allow mosquito larvae ro survive and keeps the water clear. I use one rhat costs less than $20 or just over £10.

I ve just redone a bit of the low flow main line into the 6x8 greenhouse in prep for when I change my reservoir/capillary watering to autopot/conduit/capillary system. Lots of fun figuring out how to blend the two. :)

This is some of the autopot system I bought and which arrived yesterday.

Thank you @CanadianLori, I’ve just bought one of those for my small pond so I could try it in both. Just need the sun to reappear .

This week's purchases, another Eleagnus for the front garden and a impulse buy, Coprosma "Pacific Night". Couldn't resist that glossy foliage, though when I googled it later I found it's not hardy. Oh well, I will put it in my sheltered corner next to the Edgeworthia and Drimys Lanceolata and hope for the best.

Yesterday I went to B&Q to look at some specific tiles for my bathroom. They didn't have them in. They did however have half price Calamagrostis Karl Foerster... I already have two of them in the back garden and I really love them. The new ones will go in the front garden, which is crying out for some verticality. But for now, here they are in front of one of their siblings:

@CostasK - I'm going to put the blame on you!
I had to buy an electrical component from B and Q today, but remembered you'd mentioned the half price grasses, so I just casually went to the plant section...
There weren't any grasses, but I couldn't resist this saxifrage! IMG_20251102_131231803_HDR.jpg

That looks nice @Plantminded, it makes me think of wheat fields in Summer.

I have already planted the two new ones, in the front garden. I used them to frame a rockery (that is covered in heathers).

My focus these days is on improving the front garden. As part of that, I also ordered a second Pyracantha Golden Charmer yesterday.

@CarolineL I nearly went to another B&Q following your post! I think we are a bad influence on each other

Besides the Hibiscus and Schlumberger purchases put in their respective sections, today I purchased a Pelargonium Zonal Rosebud Scarlet & White ...

                                Pelargonium Rosebud(1).jpg

I got it in Germany so have to wait till DHL deliver.

I had one years ago and only in the last few years lost it ... Apple Blossom...
