Polianthes is finally opening after teasing me for weeks. This was my first attempt to grow them.

      Have you had a sniff?
I've only ever grown them as a greenhouse pot plant.

Yes, they have a decent scent but are being drowned out by the Daphne next to them!

@Escarpment you've done well! Mine didn't flower this year. Are you leaving it in the garden or in greenhouse like @pete and me?

I don't have a greenhouse - they're in a pot on the patio. The stems are very tall and the flowerheads a bit sparse, and they've been in bud for several weeks now. Some of the buds have gone brown on one of them. They were fresh bulbs bought from Farmer Gracy in the spring.

I'd suggest taking it indoors if you can, the scent after dark is one of the strongest.

They always seem to have tall lanky flower stems in my experience.

That's really pretty @Escarpment . Not something I've ever grown, and I'd need to have it more as a houseplant, but I'm now tempted...
The bank balance won't thank me

It's so mild here, and the little common Rowan right at the back corner of my garden has only started colouring up in the last week or so. The others are bare. It's got a lot of competition next to, and around it, and is in a tiny strip of 'nothing' on the outside of the fence. The berries were strippe doff ages ago, so perhaps that has something to do with it staying green for so long.

The Spartina is actually looking pretty good, despite all the wind/rain, and the remaining flower heads are staying put for a change!

That's odd @fairygirl as it must be equally mild down here and my old rowan has some of the best colour I've ever seen on it.

Well it's been rained on all day so I won't bring it in tonight. I did just nip out in the dark and rain to have a sniff - yes it's lovely, I didn't realise it was stronger after dark.

They are from a hot climate and the scent is really strong on warm summer nights, I'm actually surprised you have it flowering this late outside.

Thanks, I spotted how well they looked at that angle so took the photo. They are a good 20' or more apart but the angle makes them look closer.
