Morning from a rather cloudy Wales.
I have 1 sub on the Tesco order, but it's for eggs. Well, eggs is eggs, so that's OK, as long as they're 'free range'. I prefer 'proper' free range, but with avian flu, they're as rare as, well, hen's teeth!
I'm hoping OH will feel able to put some outside lights up today, then we have local cards to deliver.
I need to keep busy today; my dear mum died suddenly on this day, 33 years ago.

      Good morning ladies & gentlemen,

      Thank-you you for your kind words about my eye @Busy-Lizzie , @Ladybird4 , & @Ergates .

      I wish you a safe journey to your Daughter-in-law's house @Busy-Lizzie .

My condolences to you @Penny_Forthem on a very sad anniversary for you.

A rainy morning with grey skies, but forecast to brighten in the afternoon. With the Winter solstice behind us, at least each day will have very slightly more daylight from now on.

Best wishes to all as always.

My jobs are done! Only substitute on my SM order was ordinary milk not filtered, but that’s ok. Was worrying that no smoked salmon would be left but I have my stash. So glad I booked the slot ages ago as I wouldn’t be up to braving the shops.

Be kind to yourself today @Penny_Forthem. We still miss and remember those who have gone, even after all these years. Plenty of dog cwtchs for you.

I’ve cleaned the guest bathroom, and put the recycling out. Cut OH’s hair, and then we took ourselves out for lunch. Since we got back, I have cleaned a couple of mossy areas on the steps by the front door, and on the drive by the post box. I’ve also moved some dying down pot plants to the side of the house in the ‘hospital’ area. Meanwhile, OH has taken the strip of lights down to redo them! It is a strip of LED lights which he has programmed himself. They haven’t gone back up yet. I have done two loads of laundry in the meantime. I’ll say no more!
Looks like the family will be descending on us at the weekend, so that will be fun. I think I have all the food needed either bought or ordered, so I can relax a little. No smoked salmon for us, not fans. I appear to have bought enough booze and soft drinks to host a reasonable size party. OH doesn’t like alcohol, and as none of the rest of the family are big drinkers, it may fall to me to make a decent dent in the supplies!

Good afternoon all. I had a nice visit with my friend and we had a good catch up with lots of laughter. When I got home I was SO excited about how I was going to spend my extra minute of daylight today that I put a wash load on. It probably won't dry but at least it is getting an airing. Big hugs to you @Penny_Forthem - a sad time for sure. We all miss our loved ones no matter what the length of time since they said goodbye to us.
@Ergates - I am sure that you will give it a damn good try!

Well I've dug the parsnips, and harvested sprouts and cabbage. I've left the mizuna growing , I will need to make a quick dash Christmas eve to make sure it's nice and fresh for the following day. Our marathon shop will be tomorrow. They will all decend on us Christmas day. We then go visiting on the 26 &27th.

Afternoon everybody, just spent a very pleasant hour with one of OH's nephews who popped in with his Xmas card to us - he forgot it last time he called. I wasn't quite ready for visitors as I hadn't unpacked the Xmas tree - that was next on my list but no matter. I've cleaned the house through and OH will do the vacuuming tomorrow as he 'needed' suddenly to do something with his new car. I didn't mind, if he's happy, I'm happy and he's the best of husbands.
I also got my twinkly fairy light up, one string on the terrace and one on the fencing down the drive. There's a dark 'patch' half way down where the garage motion light doesn't reach so I thought that might be a good place for them. Just got to decide which of the 8 variations I prefer! I'd have been quite happy with just 'on' and 'off'. Can't cope with too many choices.

Thinking of you @Penny_Forthem. Hope cuddles with your hounds brings some solace.

Oh @Tui34, sounds dreadful even though, as you say, the ground needs the rain. I was just reading about a huge sinkhole in the UK that opened up in a canal overnight - 50 metres long and with two canal boats marooned in the bottom. Going to be a complete nightmare trying to sort that out.
Glad you enjoyed your visit to your friend @Ladybird4 and that your migraines have eased @Badly_Maintained. I'm not there yet @AuntyRach but getting there - slowly.

We seem to have a largish stash of wine plus fizz as well @Ergates and there will be only three of us!

It's fajita night tonight, with the g'kids.
No time for moping, though some for gentle reminiscing.
But our kitchen appliances know the right time to go t**s over a***.
First, it was my small portable induction hob. It's been a daily stalwart for some years. New one arriving tomorrow.
Next up: that pesky wish dosher, again. We are not spending any more money getting it repaired, but will raid the ISA and get a new one (not a Hoover)
I bought Cointreau for our liqueur coffees (this bottle will probably outlast us!)
Brandy for a stroganoff and the christmas pud... again it will outlast us!
We still have 'Christmas spirits' from 2022....
A bottle of Malbec to accompany the goose. Hopefully, it won't outlast us!!
Mr Forthem has put our outside lights up. We may not win a prize for the most artful, but we're in it to win it.
BTW, we think the recent 'bout' was norovirus. It's doing the rounds.

I'm getting there, garden fairy lights are on and twinkling, the tree is up and decorated - bit miffed it's already dropping its needles, it's an artificial one for goodness sake.
I've cooked the pigs in blankets (my daughter is vegetarian and cannot bear the smell of bacon) and also cooked the stuffing balls.
Just got to finish off the decs tomorrow and make the mince pies - yippee.
