Thanks for everyone's help and saving me a months worth of back aches! Have spent most of the day planting up the bed, after giving the whole bed a good deep forking over.

    OK Horse poo too
At least I should have some good soil ready for next year

First weekend off since the project and greenhouse arrival
Some weeding and general watering, sorting tomato plants

Well I built a rail on the patio steps for SWMBO so she can get down to the garden (OH disabled now)

Visited the old aunt who for some reason is chucking out everything
Picked up thirty old gardening books skimmed through them and all rubbish
(how great my garden is by Alan Txhdshmse) all pics and no real content

Ooops I will start a new thread on this

Tried that with part of the plot, just put compost on top & planted onion sets & garlic straight in.

Despite the watering & feeding, the garlic crop failed spectaclierly this year.

On digging the bed over I found the whole bed had been invaded by ash tree roots, they weren't there the season before.

The tree must have loved its new source of water & nutrients. The ground was as dry as an Egyptian Mummy's treetreetree.

We do, but we still tell each other off:heehee::heehee::heehee:

I was quoting from Radio 1s "Out on Blue 6" programme, hosted by Mark Radcliffe in 1990. Probably a bit before your time Melinda:D
