Armandii, unfortunately, the experiences people have (including my own) tend not to be the sort that someone can have proof of ie. on paper. Unless of course there is an independent and totally unbiased witness. My husband has witnessed one of my premonitions, but unfortunately that can't be judged as proof to other people. I'm not a spiritualist or a clairvoyant and to be honest I don't believe in their existance, like you, until proof comes along. But I am aware of my own experiences and because they have happened on more than one occasion I have to except them, even though I can't explain them.
No dispute there, Sheal:D My point is that there are billions of people on this planet and have been for enough years for positive real proof to come to light and it hasn't. Perhaps I'm just an unfortunate individual who "can't sing, dance or whistle" with no real talents or powers who sees individuals claiming to be Psychic and taking advantage of people for commercial reasons, and also programs on TV of "neutral Investigators" who so blatantly colour the program to try to make it interesting when the evidence is just not there. The only thing I appear to believe is that I disbelieve.:D
and further down the google search page: Psychic detective - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia snip: In Britain In 2006, 28 British police forces responded to a query from the UK-Skeptics to say that they did not and have never used psychics, one force saying "We are unaware of any inquiries significantly progressed solely by information provided by a psychic medium."[1] In 2009, when the Metropolitan Police had denied the use of psychics and were then presented with emails suggesting the use of a psychic they made a press statement authorized by the senior investigating officer that was much more ambiguous: "We do not identify people we may or may not speak with in connection with inquiries. We are not prepared to discuss this further."[12] ------------------------- Police Turn to Psychics to Solve Crimes - NEWSMONSTER snip: the Daily Mail has learned that the police are increasingly turning to psychics and mediums for help in their battle against crime. Sources in the National Criminal Intelligence Service say that officers turn to mediums to help them solve the more difficult cases. There is even a database containing the names of ‘official’ psychics that officers can tap into 24 hours a day. These psychics have helped the authorities solve murders and trace missing persons. They have also helped the innocent walk free from jail.
dim, I don't deny that there are incidences of unexplained phenomena, and I have first hand knowledge of that, but I also agree with ARMANDII that I require personal evidence to that effect. The original discussion was about psychic events and whether anyone believed in those or had any experiences. One of the girls that worked for me since she left school could see auras around people's heads. She is one of the most honest people I have ever met and I have known her for almost 30 years. Although she is pretty bright she is not interested in anything about the news etc and doesn't read books or newspapers and very rarely reads magazines. One day at work we weren't very busy and a group of us were discussing psychic phenomena as two of them had been to a 'reading'. This girl, as well as most of us, thought it was a con and that sort of thing was rubbish. Then, somehow, the discussion got around to talking about auras. They all said they thought that it was a load of rubbish - except this girl. I saw a look of shock on her face and asked what the problem was. She said "how can you say it's rubbish when the evidence is before your eyes?" When we asked what she was talking about she seemed very confused and said "but everyone has an aura!". It turned out that she had been able to see auras around people's head ever since she was a kid a thought it was normal and that everyone could see them. That's why she had never mentioned it to anyone. The auras were only just a glow, with no colour, and everyones varied in size and intensity. It turned out that the way the auras looked to her told her how people were feeling - whether they were sad, happy, a number of other emotions and whether they had a headache or a hangover, or were feeling ill. After that, of course, we used to test her on her ability. There is a possibility that she could come to these, accurate, conclusions by observation using other means but, over the years, we tried testing her many times and she was never wrong. It made no difference to her whether she was seeing someone from the front, back or side. She still can't quite believe that other people don't see auras! dim, with regard to the quote from the Daily Mail - I would never want to use the Daily Mail as a judgement on the veracity of anything. :WINK1:
Blimey, Neil the Muslim could see peoples Auras too, he could tell if people were disturbed in the head.
On the other hand, I trust it utterly on voracity, particularly when it comes to pointless 'sleb' stories. My problem with psychics is that they never seem to say anything useful. Why would Great Uncle Reg go to all the trouble of coming through just to witter on about his budgie, or Grandma's noisy loo cistern?
My views on auras is this. I don't believe anyone can see anything like that, at least not with their eyes. However, and there is a big 'however', our eyesight is technically very poor. We have a blind spot right in the centre of our field of vision for one thing, we have fairly limited colour perception, detail only shows up in a very narrow range of angles etc etc. The reason why we think we have good vision is that these not so great eyes are connected to a very clever part of the brain that does all sorts of tricks to fill in the gaps in the detail, based partly on the fact that our eyes are rarely perfectly still (so we effectively look at things from a range of angles and collect all the detail), but mostly because based on experience, ie what we expect to see. For the doubters of what I just said, there are loads of optical illusions available on the net to prove it, with images that appear to move when in fact they are still, colours that randomly change when in fact they haven't done etc. For those that believe they can see auras, I'd be so bold as to suggest they have a problem with their eyesight. However, if they said they 'perceived' an aura, I might just believe them. I pick up 'vibes' off people. Many (if not most) people do to some extent or another. I can't explain it, but I seem to be very good at anticipating people's actions way before they show any noticeable sign of their intent. Its just a feeling. Maybe its something supernatural. Maybe its instinct. I just don't know and I wouldn't like to say its one or the other. As for premonitions. I believe I've had one or two of those that have kept me alive. A few times I've had very clear visions of incidents (most of the few I had featured road accidents involving me) just at that point where you're nearly asleep. Within a few days the incident has very nearly happened, but being prepared for it, my reactions have been quicker than usual and I've avoided harm. Where those visions given by spirits trying to protect me? Or were they just my mind running simulations of possible events as a way of consolidating what I already knew? Who knows. On the point about the police using psychics etc, we can use google to prove whatever we want. The fact is anyone can publish to the internet. We should remember that before deciding that because google lists it it must be true.
A farmer is attending a conference at a big venue & wanders into the wrong lecture theatre, a psychics convention instead of the lecture about food production. The man on the stage asks the audience if anyone has ever seen a ghost, lots of hands go up. He then asks if anyone has ever touched a ghost, far fewer hands go up this time. He then asks if anyone has had intimate knowlege of a ghost, this time the only hand in the air is the farmers. The man asks the farmer up to the stage & putting the microphone to him says "So you've had intimate knowlege of a ghost Sir ?" The farmer replies "I'm sorry, I thought you said Goat"
Sorry, got into derailing mode after brief encounter with evil wife, should have seen that coming, got an aura like a Banshee:DOH:
