worked at one of my client's gardens today ... just a general tidy up ... removing leaves, pressure wash the paving etc

2 years ago, I planted loads of bulbs (approx 700 tulips and 700 daffodils, plus loads more)

none of them are showing yet this year, however, the neighbour has a bed on the front of the front wall by the pavement, and her daffodils are showing, and are already 6 inches high?

anyone else having the same prob, or should the daffs be showing yet?

Well Dim , another name for the Daff is a Lent Lily . So I would expect to see my daffs coming up in late Feb. If they are showing now they are going to take the brunt of the winter weather.

I grow very little Daffs as they don't seem to last more than two seasons in my sandy neutral soil.:cry3: I have bought bags and bags of them over the years but after a while they just disappear.:D

Armandii, that surprises me, I've got sandy soil too, I planted two hundred daffs four years ago and they are fine, in fact I think they have doubled their numbers already.

They are in my front lawn and the only problem I've got is keeping people from walking over them when they deliver here. They are too lazy to use my path and it makes me angry!

They are up about two inches at the moment.

well, I hope these last longer than 2 yrs (I planted them 2 years ago), and told the lady that they last forever and become more as they make 'babies'

Yes, it surprised me, Sheal, I've tried all sorts of methods, digging them up annually, leaving them in the ground, planting them shallow, planting them deep, but just had the same result. I don't know what the problem is. I do have some Tete a Tete in a rockery and they've been there over 15 years quite happy but when I plant daffs in the borders.....uh, uh!!

Tulips love it in my garden, I've got some clumps nearly 20 years old, Fritillaria, Galtonia etc are fine.!!

Armandii, it could be that the borders are being dried out by other plants in the sandy soil. I've only got daffs under the lawn so I can't compare, but maybe it's because the grass roots don't go as far down as the bulbs and therefore they survive because there is nothing to sap the water from them. Plus the fact this island is nearly always wet!!! :)

It's a very interesting and logical theory, Sheal. It's too late for them now as the borders are now filled with literally thousands of bulbs of White Harebells, Bluebells, Tulips, Snowdrops, etc, and on top of them are the ram jammed. shoulder to shoulder, herbaceous plants.:D:heehee:
