    Good morning Folly mon,
pardon me if I am being a bit personal here but I am trying to help you by keeping the bloomin' missus sweet. Can you not treat her to a little bit of TLC with a day or two with a sister or a friend somewhere nice? A little mini break? Then you could do some of most messy work when she ain't lookin....
Why not start by taking her u p a cup of tea in bed.

As Jenny says, friends are useful for taking women out shopping - saves us having to do it (and the ensuing argument!). WEDGE HER UP!

It sound like a brilliant idea Nick! And you've got all the right components to make a start. If you need more inspiration (although you've probably got enough ideas bursting out of your head anyway!) have a look at http://www.redwoodstone.com/ who make amazing follies, and can supply bits and pieces which won't break the bank. Also, they're really nice people to deal with. Have a look at my Chelsea garden "The Pilgrims Rest, as without the materials they supplied, I wouldn't have been able to produce such an amazing structure.

Now Nick, if you try buttering up the other half she's going to suspect you're up to something. :heehee: You could compromise and leave it until the end of the summer (it's only a few months away) so she can have the garden in one piece for a while. Meanwhile you can get it all planned and ready to go. It will give you a project for later in the year when not much else is happening in the garden. :)

On the other hand you can try bribery. Come clean and tell her you want to do it now and see what she will accept in exchange, a weekend away or something of the like if you have the pennies to spare. :)
