Help! What's Eating Our Solomon's Seal

Solomon's seal sawfly lava. Same type of thing as Gooseberry sawfly. They strip the leaves and pupate in to moths and fly away to do it all over again next year.

 

The goosegog ones totally decimated one of my established goosegog bushes 3 years ago. The bush did survive, just. It did a full year of looking completely dead, now it has greened up fully for the first time since it happened, but no sign of fruit, which is a shame because it was producing well before the attack.

So, in hindsight, I would say spray the little so and sos. Don't give them a chance.

 

I don't use pesticides generally either. If you pick them off, just make sure you get them all. When I was picking them off my goosegog bush, I kept thinking I'd got them all but then I'd find loads more. They seem to camoflage very well.
