Nick, shame you live miles away. I've stumbled across a nursery that you'd love.

Apart from the usual garden centre stock, they also have an antiques section, where I'll be going next time I have some spare dosh. In there, among other things, I saw proper old tools, including a massive scythe, various implements I didn't recognise, old mangels, cast iron stoves and all sorts.

And outside, all manner of reclaimed stoneware, and also new but vintage looking stone statues. All reasonably priced too. I had my eye on a 3ft tall stone dragon. It was only about £70. Oh, and loads of stone and terracotta clay pots in all shapes and sizes. I bought a really nice terracotta pot to stand outside my front door, probably 1ft tall by 1ft across, for £7.

I saw on telly once where they said to paint stone, bricks and concrete etc with live natural yoghurt to make it look old. Apparently if you do that, it very quickly gets colonised by algae.

                      Nick,
I hope she appreciates all this thought and attention that you will give her. I'm sure she will - I can just picture her in your garden at night with soft lighting making her glow a little. I hope you can take a picture of her and show it to all of us,
Have you and Gail named her yet?
                      Jenny
